OVERVIEW OF ENGINEERING DESIGN COURSE

An Engineering Design Course consist of three modules runs throughout the academic year. The
first module is the mechanical module named the design and construction of a model railcar, this
module runs over weeks 2 to 9 of the academic year, after learnig this module hopefully all the
student requaired to make a design and construct a light-weight model of a railcar. Second
module is the civil engineering module, this module runs over week 10 to 16 of the academic
year, after learning this module hopully all the student required to design and construct a bridge
to support the track acros the casm included in a racecourse track. The last module are the
electronic engineering module, this module runs over week 17 to 24 of the academic year, after
learning this module all the student required to design and implement a signalling system
(including hardware construction and software design) to control the movement of the railcar
over the track. There are 170 student in the class, to accomplish this assignment the class is
divided into 40 working groups comprising four to five students of mixed ability.
