This mod is primarily focused at night but that does not mean that you can't
progress with the mod during the day. This mod is based very much around
finding stuff in the world and does mean that if you are playing on a server that
you will need be aware of others who are also trying to progress in the mod.
Before you start this mod, it is highly recommended that you install a mapping
mod such as Journey Map to make tracking a little easier.
This guide will not have any crafting recipes in it. Please use JEI, as some modpacks
change crafting recipes.
If you hover over the picture of the galaxy while the journal is open and double
click (or scroll) “Discovery” you will find a tree of research. In the beginning stages
you will have 7 boxes, all with more details about each box. As you progress
through the mod, more boxes will appear. The boxes are connected by white lines.
These strands have a small animation showing you the progression of items (e.g.
normal Marble leads to sooty Marble).
If you do not spawn with one or you die and lose it, you can always craft a new
one. When browsing through this book, right-click will help you go back a page and
simply double clicking the tab on the right will take you to that page.
If you sneak + right-click while holding the Astral Tome, you will open a small
storage space for Constellation papers you have found.
Rock Crystal Ore - Rock Crystal ore can be found deep underground at level 4
(give or take a few levels up or down) and below by using a Resonating Wand. It
requires a diamond pickaxe (this could be different depending on other mods
installed; needs to be able to mine obsidian) to harvest. A warning: Rock Crystal
Ore can only be mined by a player standing within 10 blocks of it, anything else
(like a quarry) and the ore will drop nothing.
Rock Crystals - these drop from Rock Crystal ore (between 1 and 3, more with
Fortune enchantment), these Rock Crystals do NOT stack in your inventory. Each
Rock Crystal has unique attributes, you will not know what these attributes are if
you have just started the mod. More on this later.
Aquamarine- These can be found in shrines that are scattered around the world
and these can also be mined from Aquamarine Shale. These are used for crafting
various items and tools in the mod.
Faint Amaranth - This flower spawns through your world and gives off a faint
glow, breaking it will give you Glowstone. You can also harvest it with a pair of
shears should you want to replant it.
Shrines - There are 4 different sizes of shrines and these are large (and sometimes
small) structures made of Marble and Marble Pillars. Small shrines will have a
chest with resources under one of the pillars, these are the most common shrines
you will come across. Bigger shrines will have more chests but will also have a
Collector Crystal in it. Other shrines can be found in Deserts and underground.
Treasure Shrines will have a stone block that, if mined, will keep spawning a variety
of ore and stone blocks in its place. These shrines have a limited number of times
they can be mined, after which they stop generating ores permanently.
Marble and Marble Pillars - Shrines are made of these blocks, it is a good idea to
pick some up once you have collected the loot from the shrines.
Sooty Marble - Sooty marble can be crafted in a crafting table and is used to craft
other mod related items.
Constellation Papers- These papers can be found in shrines and are very
important. When hovering over these when they are not in your inventory they will
say “there is nothing here.” As soon as these are transferred to your inventory they
will automatically, and randomly, change to new (undiscovered) Constellation with
a text prompt on screen. There are a total of 12 Constellations to collect, but only 5
will be identifiable before attuning yourself. Finding a Collector crystal will lead to
finding Constellation papers.
Once you have found one of these Constellation Papers your Tome will update and
give you a new tab “Constellations”. This tab will show you all the Constellations you
have discovered.
Sneak right-clicking with your Tome in hand enables you to put these Constellation
Papers into the Tome.
Once you have collected all of these Constellations, any new Constellation Papers
you pick up will just say “there is nothing here”.
Collector Crystals - These can be found floating in the center of big shrines.
Placing a crafting table near them will make a white trail appear to flow into the
crafting table.
Once you have found a large shrine you will want to dig into it to find the Collector
Crystal inside.
Resonating Wand
Place down a crafting table near the Collector Crystal and craft a Resonating Wand.
This wand can only be crafted next to a crystal in this way. If your wand does not
show up, restart Minecraft.
This wand will enable you to finish recipes and will also help you find specific Astral
Sorcery ores. With this wand in hand at NIGHT time, walk around the surface of
the world and you will see glowing light effects coming from the ground.
These markers are locations for Crystal Ore. Crystal Ore spawns around Y-level 4
and below. Dig a spiral staircase down (never dig straight down in Minecraft) to the
ore. If you have JourneyMap or any other mapping tool that lets you set marks, it’s
a good idea to mark these locations. When marking these locations, set the Y-level
to 4. This way you can mine down to level 4 and dig your way to these markers.
Using a diamond level (mines obsidian) pickaxe you will get around 1-3 Rock
Crystals without any enchants. With the fortune enchant on your pickaxe you will
get more. You will want to grab a bunch of these (keep in mind that they do not
stack). Hovering over these in your inventory while sneaking will show, “Something
seems to be here, but you can't tell what it is yet…”
While you are down here, hold the Resonating Wand and look for any dim lights
parallel to the ground. Those are other nearby Rock Crystal Ores.
Luminous Crafting Table
Go back to your crafting table that you placed down by the Collector Crystal and
craft a Luminous Crafting Table (it is required to craft it by a Collector Crystal). The
Luminous Crafting Table is used to craft most things within Astral Sorcery but this
is the FIRST tier Table.
The Luminous Crafting Table must be placed somewhere open to the sky to work.
This table has a “Star Light” meter at the bottom when you open it. This will fill up
depending on where the table is placed and the time. In the middle of the night,
your table will have higher levels of Star Light than during the day. Tables placed at
a higher elevation (max Y-level 120) will also get more Star Light. Higher levels can
be achieved if you are near a Collector Crystal or in an area of high Starlight
concentration (more on this later). This Star Light level is also affected by where
the moon is and where you are in world, as it depends on what Constellations the
table can see. During the day you will get next to no Star Light.
This table can also be used as a regular crafting table (for crafting things related to
Astral Sorcery) but when crafting anything for Astral Sorcery you will need your
Resonating Wand. Unlike a normal crafting table where you can just pull out what
you have crafted, you have to exit the table after creating the recipe and then
right-click the table with the Resonating Wand. A beam of moonlight will shine on
the table and then the crafted item will appear in the world on top of the table.
Exploration
When you open your Tome you will see that you have a new chapter: Exploration.
Double clicking (or scrolling) this will enter the chapter and give you more boxes:
This chapter opens up a lot of new items to craft and a few abilities. Be sure to
place your Luminous Crafting Table with a view of the sky because you will need it
to craft your next item, the “Lightwell”. You will also need a few buckets and more
marble.
Lightwell
The Lightwell needs to be crafted in the Luminous Crafting Table and requires a
few Rock Crystals. Now when you hover over Rock Crystals and hold sneak you can
see some properties of the Rock Crystal such as Size, Purity and Cutting. When
crafting your Lightwell make sure you pick the crystal with the LOWEST Purity,
because you will need the higher Purity crystals later. The Purity of the crystal used
has no effect on the Lightwell (but does for some other crafted blocks).
Put the Lightwell down under an open sky, then right-click the Lightwell with a valid
item in hand to create Liquid Starlight. These items can’t be removed from the
Lightwell, and will continue to generate Liquid Starlight until they shatter.
Valid items starting with the (lowest to highest) starlight generation and (highest to
lowest) shatter chance:
Aquamarine
Resonating Gems
Rock Crystals
Attuned Rock Crystals
Celestial Crystals
Attuned Celestial Crystals
It is best to start this process at the beginning of the night in order to get the most
out of your items as you will get little to none during the day. Keep in mind that
Lightwells can only hold up to 2 buckets of Liquid Starlight so you will want a liquid
container nearby to put Liquid Starlight into during generation.
!! Using Aquamarine could be costly because they can break while generating
Liquid Starlight, meaning you might go through a lot of them.
If you have a lot of Rock Crystals you can use the ones with the lowest purity. You
will get more Liquid Starlight with a Rock Crystal than an Aquamarine. Be sure to
have a bucket on hand to empty the Lightwell.
Liquid Starlight behaves similarly to water. It moves WaterMills, flows a lot faster
than water, gives you night vision when you stand in it, and it will freeze when in
contact with water. When using it with other Mods, please note that it is
considered very cold. If you try to extract this liquid via Thermal Expansion Fluid
Ducts they will break (you will need to use Reinforced Liquid ducts). Liquid Star
Light can be pumped out from the bottom of the Lightwell.
Fosic Resonator
Now that you have a good amount of Liquid Starlight it's time to create your next
item, the Fosic Resonator. This will require a bucket of Liquid Starlight and a gold
ingot. This must be crafted on the Luminous Crafting Table.
This little device will help you find higher concentrations of Starlight (useful if you
are having problems with getting enough Starlight for crafting). With this in hand
you walk around your world and find patches on the ground that are blue. This
needs to be done at night and you may not see these patches if you are flying
around too high or too fast.
Dark Blue patches like the one above mean there is a medium concentration of
Star Light.
This patch has a much higher concentration of Starlight and is perfect. The higher
you build on these patches the more Starlight you will get. This does not mean you
will need to relocate or build your “base” here but it will help. Either one of these
patches are good and will benefit you if you can start on one of these areas.
Higher levels of Starlight are needed to craft more complex items. You can see how
much Starlight is needed for each item by hovering over the star in the top right
corner of the Tome entry for that item. When trying to craft a item you can see
how much Starlight you need in the Starlight bar. If the bar is not solid blue it
means you will need more Starlight:
If you have started creating an item and the Starlight level drops too low then it will
fail, but progress will resume if the Starlight level meets the item’s crafting
threshold again at a later time (for example, after a day turns to night again).
Spectral Relay
If you are still having problems with Starlight then there are other tools you can
use to increase this. The Spectral Relay is a multiblock structure. Full instructions
on how to build this can be found in your Tome on page 2 of the Relay, on the top
right of the left page. Hovering over the star will give you a full list of materials
needed. Once the foundation is built, place down the Relay and the right-click the
relay with a Glass Lens.
You need to build this multiblock structure near (14 blocks away from the Altar is
the max distance) your Luminous Crafting Table. More than one can be built to
increase their power, and they can be built adjacent to one another so that they
share sides as shown below.
However as cool as this is, this is also a very inefficient setup due to Astral
Sorcery’s starlight cannibalism mechanic, where any starlight collector (Crystal’s,
Ritual Pedestals, Relays, etc.) operates most efficiently within its own 16 block area,
edges determined by vectors. For example the second relay will add minimal, and
probably immaterial amounts of starlight to the network. It will be significantly
improved if the second relay was placed at least 16 blocks away from the other
Relay.
You can still put down a whole bunch of these relays (and later on Collector
Crystals / Enhanced Collector Crystal structures) which will increase your starlight
power. Just make sure there is only one Luminous Crafting Table in their line of
sight, that they are not being blocked by walls, and once again, all starlight
collecting devices function most efficiently when at least 16 blocks away from each
other.
Next, you want to craft the Looking Glass. This will require a little bit of Starlight. As
long as you craft this at night in an area with a high density of Starlight then this
should be no problem.
With the Looking Glass in hand right-click and look into the sky, a box will pop up
which is zoomed into the sky. What you are looking for is Constellations. You will
know when you have found these when you see bigger stars that fade in and out
in the center in the box. Some nights you will find Constellations and other nights
you might not. Or you might see different ones each night. Also be aware if you are
too close to things, such as buildings, the screen will go black.
Once you have found a Constellation, exit out of the telescope (don’t move) and
open your Tome. You want to find out what Constellation this is, you will need to
open the Constellation tab.
Once you have found it, open your telescope and HOLD sneak. A mouse pointer
will appear. Click and drag to draw the consolation. Once you have done this you
will discover the Constellation.
When you look at the sky without a Looking Glass you will be able to see the
Constellation you discovered. Some nights it will be out others it will not (because
the world rotates). The handheld telescope allows you to find the brightest
Constellations out night.
Now that you have found your first Constellation it’s best if you try to find new
ones each night, but this is not always possible. You also have some new tools at
your disposal. There are a total of 12 Constellations that can be found with the
looking glass.
Rock Crystals
Rock Crystal ore can be found deep underground at Y-level 4 and below (give or
take a few levels up or down) using a Resonating Wand. It requires a Diamond
pickaxe (this could be different depending on other mods installed; needs to be
able to mine obsidian) to harvest. A warning: Rock Crystal Ore can only be mined
by a player standing within 10 blocks of it, anything else (like a quarry) and the ore
will drop nothing.
You are going to need more Rock Crystals. These are not always easy to come by
so use these sparingly. If you wish to make a sword or a pickaxe from Rock Crystal
take the following into consideration:
Size: Grindability/Durability - The bigger the better, this will increase the
tool/weapon Durability.
Purity: Power of Starlight if used to transmit Starlight, and resistance to loss of
size when grinding. This will allow you to sharpen the tool/weapon to make it
even stronger.
Cutting: Damage/tool speed
You can use normal Rock Crystals but you can enhance these to make them more
powerful. Throwing these into Liquid Starlight will increase the Crystals overall size
(up to 400). This is a slow process and could take some time so while that is
happening you can move onto making a Grindstone.
Grindstone
A Grindstone is very simple to make and does not require much Starlight. It will
allow you to enhance your tools (Pickaxe and Axe) and weapons. Throwing a sword
in and then right-clicking the grindstone will make sparks appear. Once these stop
appearing you can take out your weapon (sneak-right-click) and you will notice
your weapon is now sharpened, which grants a 10% damage increase.
This works even better with Rock Crystal tools. Once you have created your Rock
Crystal sword you can throw it into Liquid Starlight to increase its size further. Be
aware that when you submerge Rock Crystals or Rock Crystal tools in Liquid
Starlight it may increase its size but it will decrease its CUTTING unless the Crystal
was split before hand. Size will only decrease when used in the grindstone. When
the size goes down to 0 it will destroy the item.
The Purity of the Crystals can be boosted by “Splitting.” This process requires Rock
Crystals to be thrown into Liquid Starlight. When the Crystals reach max Size they
have a chance to “Split” (basically double). This process can be repeated but it will
reduce the Size of the Crystal by a lot and will randomise the Cutting.
These weapons can be stronger and faster than their diamond counterparts but
they will dull overtime, losing attack damage.
Illuminating powder
With a little bit of Starlight, glowstone and aquamarine you can craft Illumination
Powder. It is very useful on its own but it's far more useful when used to craft
other items. Once crafted you can right-click it on the ground and it will light up the
area. Unlike a torch, it does not have a hit box. The only way to put these out is to
place a block over them.
Nocturnal Powder
Using the Illumination powder you can also create Nocturnal powder. When right-
clicked on the ground it will create a dark patch which will eventually disappear
leaving behind a group of mobs. The mobs spawned will vary per biome and the
mods installed. If the mobs inside are somehow continuously removed (e.g. killed
or pushed out of the area), more mobs will spawn inside the smoke!
Cave Illuminator
The Cave Illuminator when placed down will slowly light up caves (similar to
Illuminating Powder) below the block, by default it has a 64 block range but this
can be changed via configs. This can be picked up with a pickaxe and the light
sources will stay. The Cave Illuminator must be placed in a location with direct sky
access.
Sextant
The Sextant is a great little tool with two different functions for the basic variety
(you will be able to craft an Augmented one later).
At night with the Sextant in hand, right-click and you will notice that it looks a lot
like the Looking Glass, but with a few extra icons on the right hand side (each icon
represents different astral Sorcery Shrines: Large, Desert and Small).
As you look around the night sky with the Sextant you will notice large coloured
stars (sometimes blue, sometimes green). These stars are locations of Astral
Sorcery Shrines. While looking at the star you can hold SNEAK. This enables you to
move your mouse without looking around the sky. If you hover over one of these
stars you will be able to see what kind of Shrine is nearby.
You can then drag and drop the correct kind of Shrine from the icons on the right.
This will make the star appear in the night sky without using the Sextant, thus
making it far easier to find Shrines. Once you have found the Shrine you want, you
can select another star in the sky and this will stop tracking the previous Shrine.
Green stars are undiscovered and Light Blue are discovered shrines.
The Sextant is not just used for finding Shrines. You can also use it to assist you
with building the required structures around Altars (such as the Crafting Altar).
Once you have upgraded your Altar, you can sneak-click the Altar with your
Sextant. This will show “ghost blocks” where you need place down blocks in order
to complete the Altar.
This way you can see what blocks to use and exactly how high and wide to build
the structure. This makes building much quicker. This can also be done with other
structures in the future but you MUST have the base block in place. This does not
work with ALL structures (such as relays).
In creative mode, sneak-right-clicking will place down all the blocks for you.
Infused Wood
Infused Wood
Now you want to upgrade your Luminous Crafting Table to a Starlight Crafting
Altar. This will enable you to make more powerful items. To craft this you will need
plenty of Starlight and a few materials (please check your Tome). When you have
all of these in the Luminous Crafting Table right-click it with your Resonating Wand
and your Luminous Crafting Table will upgrade itself. This can take a little while so
make sure you do this in the middle of the night. Please ensure that you have the
correct materials (pay close attention to the types of marble blocks) to upgrade the
Luminous Crafting Table or you may find that you need to craft another Basic
Crafting Table to craft Marble.
Once your Starlight Crafting Altar is done you will notice that it no longer works.
This is because it needs a special platform in order to work. If you look in your
Tome it will show you how to build this platform and what materials you need (use
the Sextant to help with the layout).
You will notice that your Starlight Crafting Altar has a much bigger Starlight Meter.
This altar also needs to have access to the sky, just like the Luminous Crafting
Table did. It would be beneficial to get the Starlight Crafting Altar’s Starlight Level
to full. This will make crafting and other activities easier. You can surround the
altar with Spectral Relays to help boost the altar’s Starlight Level.
Attunement
Telescope
You have already discovered a few Constellations with the Looking Glass. This
works, but there is an easier method to discovering the rest. Craft a Telescope and
place it down in a high place (away from buildings and trees). This will enable you
to look at the stars and find other Constellations. The telescope will let you draw
out these Constellation without needing to sneak and will let you scroll left and
right without having to look around.
If you are able to discover more Constellations then please do. Looking these
Constellations up in your Tome will give you a bit more information on them.
Lens
Next you want to craft the Linking Tool and a few Lenses, these items must be
crafted in the new Starlight Crafting Altar. In order to gain even more Starlight you
can link the Collector Crystals you found in one of the big Shrines to your Starlight
Crafting Altar. Depending on how far away your Altar is, it might not be difficult to
get it to reach.
Purity - The higher the Purity the more Starlight can pass through the lens.
Size - This will increase the quantity of lenses you make with each crafting.
Putting a Lens down between your Starlight Crafting Altar and the Collector Crystal
will allow you to link the Crystal with the lens by simply right-clicking the Crystal
then the Lens with the Linking Tool. Once it has been linked, a beam of light will
come from the Collector Crystal to the lens. Next you can link the lens with the
altar by right-clicking the lens, and then the altar. Sneak-right-clicking the block will
unlink the block.
When you use imperfect lenses, the further you go away from the Collector Crystal
the weak and weaker the beam will be . The more impure the Lenses the more
Starlight you will lose.
The above example is NOT perfect as the Spectral Relay's are far to close together.
The Linking Tool is not just used to bind Collector Crystals to lenses, it can also be
used in Iron Transmutation. Setting down some Iron ore near a Collector Crystal,
you can use the Linking Tool to link the Collector Crystal to the ore. Over time this
ore will change into Star Metal Ore. We can smelt this into a Starmetal Ingot and in
turn this can be ground down (on the grinder) into 3 Stardust.
With this Stardust you can craft a “Scroll of Written Expertise” which you can give to
other people. This enables them to share the research you have so far.
Here is a list of all the blocks you can transmute and their results:
Wands
Formation Wand: Be sure to have a stack of a block in your inventory. With the
wand in hand, right-click a block (in the world) that you have a lot of in your
inventory (e.g. dirt). In the top right corner of your screen you will be able to see
the block selected and the amount you currently have. By simply pointing and
clicking, you will be able to build lines of blocks from a good distance.
Conversion Wand: This wand will let you convert blocks with ones that you have
in your inventory. If you want to convert your cobblestone masterpiece into dirt,
simply sneak-right-click the dirt and then your masterpiece. All the converted
blocks will drop to the ground (as if they had been mined). You can use this as a
replacement for silk touch.
Impulsion Wand: Formerly known as the vortex wand, this wand acts like a
grappling hook but with limited range (around 20 blocks). It is great for when you
want to get up hills, but can be deadly as it could lead to you falling down a cliff or
into mobs.
Celestial Gateway
With the Stardust and the Stardust Ingots you can move on to the Celestial
Gateway. This requires a Rock Crystal but there is no need to worry about its
attributes. You also need to build a structure for the Celestial Gateway to sit on.
The design, as well as the required materials, can be found in the Tome. This needs
to have access to the sky or Bedrock (this will work interdimensionally, even with
modded dimensions like Galacticraft).
Once the base is complete and the Celestial Gateway placed down, your Celestial
Gateway should light up around the black blocks. Once you step inside this area a
dark dome appears around you that stops at ground level. This is a teleportation
pad. You can build more of these in your world (and other dimensions) and they
will link to each other.
When you have built more than one, a gold star will appear in the dome indicating
the other gateway(s). These stars will be above ground level you so you will always
be able to find them. If there is anything in the way (such as a tree) you will may
not be able to see the whole dome.
You can rename the gateway in an anvil which will create a small caption
appearing on the star while looking at it, allowing you to differentiate between
different locations.
If you stand in the middle of the dome and sneak-right-click on a gold star, you will
be teleported to that location. These also work in the Nether, End and other
dimensions added by mods.
Celestial Altar
Your Starlight Crafting Altar can now be upgraded again. This requires a lot of
Starlight and a few materials. The Celestial Altar also needs to have a physical
upgrade, but this can be done once the altar block itself has been upgraded. Just
like the previous upgrade, you place the materials into the Starlight Crafting Altar,
right-click it with your Resonating Wand and wait for the magic.
When building the new structure, make sure you check the Tome and rotate the
image to see exactly where blocks should be placed (or use the Sextant).
Once the Celestial Altar has been built and upgraded you will notice there are even
more spaces in the crafting grid.
The above Altar is NOT set up in the most efficaint manner because the Spectral
Relay's are too close together.
Attunement Altar
Now you are ready to start Attuning yourself with a Star Sign. This will allow you to
specify the Crystals or powers that you are able to attain. Keep your telescope
close to the Celestial Altar. Not only will you need to make an Attunement Altar but
you will also need to build another altar for this to sit on. This can be found in your
Tome.
You will know the platform is right when you see lots of little sparkles on the
ground around the Attunement Altar.
You will also need a few Spectral Relays and you will need to pick a constellation to
attune yourself to (these can be found by sneak-right-clicking your Tome).
Take a Constellation Paper and put it in your off-hand. While in the Attunement
Altar you will see little blue swirls on the ground that match the Constellation (you
can only see this at night).
Put down Spectral Relays where the swirls appear. Once successful, the lines will
connect and look like the Constellation. You can put more Relays down for other
Constellations but remove at least ONE Relay from the previous Constellation (only
one complete Constellation can be active at once). This will save you time in the
future because you will just need to put one Relay down for a Constellation rather
then all of them.
For this to work you will have needed to discover the Constellation in the sky and it
must also be in the sky on that night. This process could take a few days and relies
on a little luck sometimes. If your chosen Constellation is not in the sky then this
process will not work. You can always change what Constellation you want to
attune to by changing the Relays.
Once your Constellation is in the sky, step into the Attunement Altar and wait.
Once the process has completed, you will have unlocked “perks”. These are much
like bonuses and work like a Talent Tree. You get one free “point” to spend at first
and, as you level up, you can gain more. You must put points into all of the
prerequisite perks before unlocking higher level perks.
Attunement Perks
Here is a full list of all the perks for each each Constellation and what talents they
offer:
Digging straight down Protects against lava for a short time with cooldown
No armor is more
Resistances and healing when wearing less than 2 armor pieces
armor
Can save you from death in dire situations, healing and strength
Phoenix blessing
potion effects
Increased fertility Animals around you feel the need for replication
Mineral enrichment Stone near you might turn into more valuable stone
Last breath Higher attack damage and faster mining at low health
Stacking destruction Higher attack damage and faster mining over time
Spend your Talent Points by opening your Tome, selecting the Perks ribbon on the
right and clicking the first red dot on the perk tree.
Shifting Star
If you ever want to change your Attunement for whatever reason then you will
need to craft a Shifting Star. This can be used just like a bow (it will draw back and
then break) and will clear your Attunement. This will undo all your progress with
that attunement. Some of these attunements will take some time to progress
through so make sure you are 100% sure you want to clear your attunement.
New Constellations
Once you are attuned you will be able to discover NEW Constellations. Simply by
looting Constellation Paper you get from chests you can discover seven new
Constellations. Unlike the basic Constellations, you will not be able to bind yourself
to these, but you can bind Crystals to these. When looking in the Tome you will
notice that these seven new Constellations are a different colour to the other ones.
Unlike the previous Constellations, when you are trying to attune a Crystal to these
new Constellations you will notice that it might take a few days for the Altar to
activate. This is normal.
Attuning Rock Crystals
In addition to attuning yourself, Rock Crystals can also be attuned. You can repeat
the same process you used to attune yourself, but instead of standing in the
middle of the Attunement Altar, throw a Rock Crystal in. This will take a bit of time
and then will attune that Rock Crystal to the Constellation which you have marked
out with Relays.
Ritual Pedestal
Now that you have an Attuned Rock Crystal you can make use of the Ritual
Pedestal. This will require a structure built below it. Check your Tome for full
instructions. Once built, you can throw in your newly acquired Attuned Rock
Crystal. Be sure to illuminate the multiblock structure so that snow will not
accumulate on the blocks and cancel the ritual.
This Pedestal acts like a beacon. Each area of effect will be different depending on
the attunement of the crystal. This beacon can have up to a 20 block radius and is
dependant on the Size and Purity stats of the crystal you use (the Cutting attribute
does not matter). You can remove the Attuned Crystal from the Pedestal by sneak-
right-clicking it.
Pedestal Effects
Constellation Effect
Hostile mobs and projectiles are repelled away from the Pedestal,
Armara
Nearby entities gain resistance and absorption.

Celestial Crystals
Instead of using Rock Crystals you can use Celestial Crystals. Throwing a single
Stardust and a Single Crystal (attuned/un-attuned Rock Crystals or even Celestial
Crystals to re-roll their stats) into Liquid Starlight and waiting will turn them into
Celestial Crystal Clusters.
These Crystal Clusters need to be left to grow, so do not harvest these straight
away. You will know when they are matured and ready to harvest when they have
small white particles coming off of them. Other methods of detecting whether or
not a Crystal Cluster is ready for harvest is to check it’s metadata in the F3 menu
(or if you have a mod like WAWLA or TheOneProbe installed and configured
correctly). A Crystal Cluster with a metadata of 4 means it is fully grown and ready
for harvest. When harvesting (with an iron pickaxe or above) you have a chance to
get Stardust back.
You can increase the growth rate of Crystals by directing Starlight (e.g. from a
Collector Crystal) towards the cluster. In addition, breaking a fully grown Celestial
Cluster on top of Starmetal ore has a chance of yielding an extra Celestial Crystal.
However, the cluster will continuously revert Starmetal ore back to iron ore, so it is
recommended to also have the Collector Crystal link to the iron ore as well.
Celestial Crystals are stronger and bigger in size compared to their “Rock”
counterparts (900 as compared to 400). The Size, Purity and Cutting of these
Crystals are random. Even if you spawn in a 400/100/100 Rock Crystal, it will never
be a perfect Celestial Crystal. In almost all cases in vanilla Astral Sorcery (with no
modpack specific configurations), Celestial Crystals are equal to or strictly superior
in any situation where a Rock Crystal can be used (unless it’s crafting something
which does not care about Crystal stats).
Resplendent Prism
The Resplendent Prism is a Bauble that sits in the Amulet slot. This Bauble will add
levels to random enchants on the items you are wearing or have equipped in your
main or off hand. The Prism will add up to 3 different (random) enchant levels. This
can also apply to enchants added by other mods. It is also very important to know
that levels are added to EXISTING enchants.
The enchants are randomly rolled when you put the Prism into your inventory:
The Prism can boost up to three enchants and can add up to +2 levels on a single
enchant. The Prism can also boost itself:
As you can see above, you would get +1 to Existing Burnerang and +1 to all existing
Enchants, so you could have up to +3 to Burnerang (the original Burnerang
enchant, +1 to Burnerang and +1 to all enchants). The Prism will also allows you to
go beyond enchanting limitations. It can also be rerolled via the Celestial Altar.
Coloured Lenses
Coloured Lenses can be put into Lenses (this makes sense when you look at the
pictures). These should mainly be used for their effects rather than moving
Starlight to your altar. Simply right-click a Coloured Lens on to a Lens you have
previously placed down.
You can remove a Coloured Lens by sneak-right-clicking the Lens. Lenses are also
used for crafting. Each Coloured Lense has a different effect:
Ignition (Orange) - Cooks items that are thrown in front of it (Potatoes >
Baked Potatoes) and will burn mobs and players in front of it. Does not work
with blocks PLACED in front of the beam.
Break (Yellow) - Breaks any block in front of the beam of light. Takes longer to
break more difficult blocks (obsidian).
Growth (Green) - Will encourage plants and crops that are in front of the
beam to grow.
Damage (Red) - Will damage any mobs in front of the beam. This is Magical
damage and will not hurt players.
Regeneration (Pink) - This will heal mobs and the player. It will not add a
regeneration effect.
Push (Light Blue) - Items and mobs will be pushed along by the beam.
Spectral (Purple) - Allows you to project Starlight through walls.
Starlight Infuser
Next you want to build the Starlight Infuser. This requires a structure to be built
and is a bit more complicated than previous altars because it requires Liquid
Starlight.
Resonating Gem
You can test if the Starlight Infuser works by placing an Aquamarine Gem into it by
right-clicking the Infuser with the Gem and then right-clicking the Infuser with your
Resonating Wand. The Starlight Infuser will then give off a few particles and turn
the Aquamarine Gem into a Resonating Gem. This process has a chance of using
up one of the 12 “pools” of Liquid Starlight, so ensure that these are always filled.
You will need a few of these Resonating Gems to craft other items later on.
The Starlight Infuser can also be used with tools and weapons. Placing a tool or a
weapon into the Infuser and right-clicking with the Resonating Wand will infuse the
weapon or tool and give you a Infused version.
Infusing tools is a very expensive process and will require you to refill your Infusion
altar with Liquid Starlight. Keep in mind that making multiple tools will not allow
you to switch between tools while they are charging, meaning you can have the
effect trigger then swap to a different weapon (or the same weapon).
Advanced Sextant
The Advanced Sextant enables you to track other structures in addition to Shrines,
such as Villages, specific Vanilla Biomes, Ocean Monuments and Nether Fortresses.
Prism Lenses
Resonating Gems can be used to make Prism Lenses. These act like normal lenses
but will split any beam equally, so you can have Starlight beams pointing at more
than one block. The Prism can also have coloured glass added to it so you can split
off any effects you want.
Collector Crystals
Collector Crystals are the next level of Starlight gathering after Relays. You can
place/break these crafted Collector Crystals at will (in contrast to the ones you find
in large Shrines). These can be made from Attuned Crystals with high stats to
become the most potent sources of Starlight available. The biggest motivation to
use Celestial Crystals over Rock Crystals, or to refine the Size, Purity and Cutting of
any Crystal, is to make powerful Collector Crystals that you can link to your
Celestial Altar. This could allow you to craft at noon, craft in the middle of a
rainstorm or for accelerated transmutation.
The best way to think about how a Crystal’s stats affect the performance of a
Collector Crystal is to use a jeweler's analogy. In the end, all stats matter if you’re
just concerned about producing the most Starlight possible.
Size - the larger the size of a Crystal, the more Starlight it can gather (the more
surface area it can collect light from).
Purity - You can gather all of the Starlight in the world, but it won’t do you any
good if the Crystal is occluded or cloudy. Purity is one of the most punishing
stats if low, but also one of the least rewarding if absolutely perfect (a purity of
90% versus 100% leads to only about a 5% difference in Starlight). It is the
most difficult stat to min-max, but conversely, also the least required.
Cut - Lastly, Cut determines the resulting focus of the Starlight coming out of
the Crystal. You can gather all the Starlight in the world and redirect through
the purest crystal, but if the Cut isn’t good, the light won’t be focused.
The final level of Starlight production uses the Enhanced Collector Crystal
Structure. To put it into relative terms, the amount of Starlight produced by
Celestial Collectors with strong Crystals, let alone an Enhanced Collector, can allow
a player to craft with an Iridescent Altar at noontime or in the middle of a
thunderstorm. The amount of Starlight produced renders minor bonuses from
elevation close to negligible, but if you still want to min-max, then feel free. As for
the Enhanced Collector Structure, it allows a Collector Crystal to be somewhat
performant throughout the night, even if its Constellation isn’t in the sky, or during
the day. When it comes to Astral Sorcery’s Starlight network, it’s a spectrum of
things that affect Starlight production, rather than an on/off switch. Night vs day,
Rock Crystal vs Celestial, regular vs enhanced, poor stats vs. perfect stats,
Constellation in the night sky, elevation level, Starlight concentration, etc.
Ritual Anchor
A pair of Ritual Anchors will enable you to move the area of effect of your
Pedestal’s ritual. An example would be if you wanted to have Aevitas above your
home, far away from your Pedestal.
First you must place your desired Attuned Rock Crystal into the Pedestal (in this
case it would be Mineralis). Then you need to place a Ritual Anchor five blocks
above the Pedestal as shown (the Ritual Anchor is the “flashlight” at the top of the
green, red and blue pyramid below):
When the second anchor is placed in a remote location, bind both of the Anchors
and you will notice that the ritual effect works in the second location (again, note
the Ritual Anchor is the gold-capped white tube with purple sparkles in the center
left of the pic, on the ore pile. The ritual pedestal from the first picture is visible in
the background):
Ensure that you keep the Linking Tool in your hand while binding these (don’t
change to another item). This can be used with any number of the different
Constellations.
Empowering the Pedestal
You can boost the effect of the Pedestal by placing down a Collector Crystal and
binding it to the Pedestal with the Linking Tool. This will create a ring around the
bottom of the Pedestal at night.
You will notice beams of light coming off the Crystal. If you place a Lens where the
light ends and bind it back to the Pedestal, you can boost the effect. You can do
this up to five times. Once completed, you will see the Constellation on the bottom
of the Pedestal:
The Collector Crystal does not need to be bound to the same Constellation but it's
a good idea. Once you remove the Crystal, the Lenses may not line up when you
replace the it and may need to be re-linked.
Tree Beacon
The Tree Beacon is a great tool for when you need extra wood but don't have
much space. Place the Tree Beacon into the world and plant a sapling next to the
Beacon. Encourage the tree to grow with bonemeal and you will notice the tree
disappears but a ghostly shadow will stay in its place. Over time, this ghost will
decay leaving behind Saplings and Wood. This can be further enhanced by
Pedestals and by feeding Starlight into the Tree Beacon via a Collector Crystal.
These ghost trees will soon disappear, meaning you will need to plant more
saplings. Two or three saplings will yield over two double-chests full of logs,
saplings and apples. If you want to get rid of the ghost trees, destroy the Tree
Beacon and the trees will appear so you can cut these down at will.
Illumination Wand
The Illumination Wand allows you to place an Illumination Powder effect with a
simple right-click, creating a glowing entity that emits light 7 blocks in all directions.
AS version 1.9.1 adds the ability to remove these lights by right-clicking them;
otherwise they may be removed by placing a block in the same space.
It also allows you to sneak right-click blocks to turn them into a transparent
glowing block (which does not emit light) which is unbreakable, blast resistant and
wither-proof. This effect can be removed by sneak-right-clicking the block a second
time.
The the wand has a ‘charge meter’ that fills over time, holding enough for two uses
in quick succession, but will run out of charge if used rapidly. The meter will refill
completely in about eleven seconds and each use consumes 50% of the meter’s
charge. Here you can see the meter as blue sparkles sharing the same space as
the normal EXP bar, which will display whenever the wand is selected:
When using the Illumination Wand do not sneak-right-click any part of your
multiblock structures as this will disable them.
Stellar Refraction Table
The Stellar Refraction Table requires Infused Glass and an open sky above it to
work. Once the Table is placed down, right-click it with a single piece of Infused
Glass (bear in mind that this glass has a durability). Once in the Table the UI will
change. The Table also requires Parchment. It can hold about a stack of Parchment
(right-click with it to insert)
.
The Table’s UI will also look different at night and will require it to be night in order
for it to work correctly:
The Stellar Refraction Table can make engraved glass that can be used repeatedly
to make brews, enchanted books and enables you to enchant items such as tools
and weapons.
The basic idea behind this is that once you have inserted your glass and
Parchment, you can then add up to three Constellations to the Parchment. Then
you can etch the Constellations you selected to the glass. Once the glass has been
etched you can take the Parchment away and insert items, potions or books. Over
time these will become enchanted. This is heavily dependant on what
Constellations you have found and what Constellations are currently in the sky.
This table also does not work if the moon is too low to the horizon (early evening
or early morning).
Here is a step-by-step:
3. Eventually you will find a set of Constellations that will not burn your paper. Once
this is done you will notice the glass has changed - this is your Engraved Glass. It
has a limited amount of uses before you have to create a new one.
4. Once you have Engraved Glass you can insert (right-click) books, armor, weapons
or potions into your Table. Sneak right-click the Parchment to remove it from the
Table.
Remember each piece of Etched Glass has a limited amount of uses. Glass can also
be taken out of the table by sneak-right-clicking it.
Each Constellation has its own enchants depending on what it's going to be
enchanting.
To see the full list click here.
You can stack three of the same Constellation pr you can do a single Constellation.
You will not always get the same enchant, it could be stronger or weaker. You can
also get bonus effects such as Phoenix Fire which can save you from death. Other
Enchants such as Protection V can also be achieved.
Iridescent Altar
The Iridescent Altar requires a lot of Starlight and a few materials but is very
important when moving on to more of this mod.
This altar will need a new structure around it. This only takes a few blocks around
the top of the altar. Once built it will add a few new features around your altar. You
will know this is done when a crystal appears above your altar.
Radiance
Your new Iridescent Altar is very different from your old altar. Not only does it
require Crystals during crafting, this Crystal MUST be attuned. It also requires you
to place items around the Altar in order to craft anything. When placing Attuned
Crystals into the Altar you will notice that at night, the Constellation that the
Crystal is attuned to will display on the floor below the Altar. The crafting grid is
also much bigger.
The above Altar has Spectial Relays that are far to close, do not do this.
When looking up new items to craft you will notice that there are other items
outside the crafting grid:
Instead of crafting only within the table, you are also using the area around the
table to craft. During the crafting process your Iridescent Altar will tell you what
items are required to continue crafting and to finish item. In order to do this you
have to use Spectral Relays.
Containment Challice
The first item that should be crafted is the Containment Challice (this will also
demonstrate how crafting now works). Once the required items are in the table,
there will be a picture (just like before) on the right side of the table that will
confirm that you have all the right reagents.
Before you right-click the table with your Resonating Wand, place down 4 relays on
the Sooty Marble just inside the border. This is so you can see what the Altar is
asking for and so you can put these items down quickly.
Always make sure you put down as many relays as the recipe asks for: six floating
items, six relays.
Not all items require an Attuned Crystal to be crafted.
Right-click your altar to begin the crafting process. As the process goes on, you will
notice the relays will have a “Ghost” image of the item that it requires. Right-click
the item into the relay:
The above Alter has Spectial Relay's that are too close together, do not do this!
What's special about this Chalice is when you stand them next to each other when
filled with different liquids. Filling one with Water and one with Liquid Starlight will
cause the water and Starlight particles to interact with each other, creating blocks
of Ice. This is because when Starlight touches water it turns into ice:
These Chalices do not have an inventory so the Ice will drop on the ground until
they disappear or get picked up. Another great thing is that the ice created does
not use up a whole bucket of each liquid, so 24 buckets should net you a few
stacks of ice.
You can also put 2 Chalices filled with water and Lava next to each other and have
the same effect but instead of ice it will form cobblestone, smooth stone or
obsidian at random:
You can also combine 3 Chalices filled with Water, Lava and Liquid Starlight and
collect other blocks such as Sand, ores and other goodies like Rock Crystals and
Aquamarine Ore:
These Chalices work well with other mods and you can pump liquids in and out
from the bottom of them. Just be very careful where you place them and don't
leave them running without a method of picking up the drops.
Chalice Uses
Placing the Chalice next to a Lightwell will drain the Lightwell. This will take care of
having to empty the Lightwell as soon as it gets full.
These Chalices (filled with liquid Starlight) can also be put around your Infuser.
This allows the Infuser to take Liquid Starlight from the Chalice rather then from
the holes in the ground, which makes Infusion not use as much Liquid Starlight.
You can put these all around the Infuser as long as they are inside the structure:
Observatory
The Observatory enables you to find four new Constellations. These are Faint
Constellations and can only be found with the Observatory because they are
further away. When placed down, you will be able to get into the Observatory by
right-clicking the seat. Once inside you will be able to see the night sky. Moving
your mouse around will scan the night sky. Searching and drawing out the
constellations works just like the looking glass:
The new constellations are purple and can be seen in the night sky once found:
You can also use the Observatory to find any other Constellations that you have
not found.
In order to attune Crystals with new Constellations you will need to follow the
same process as attuning a crystal:
You can look up each of these constellations in the Tome but the descriptions are a
bit vague.
Gelu
Fracturing Mechanic
The more stress a Crystal is put under while in the Ritual Altar, the more the
Crystal will start to Fracture. This is a percentage and will slowly increase the more
stress the Crystal is put under. Once the Crystal reaches 100% fracturing, it will be
destroyed. Fracturing can be repaired by dropping the crystal into Liquid Starlight.
The more you empower the Crystal while in the Pedestal, the more chance it will
start to fracture. Setting up a Pedestal and leaving it will cause your Crystal to
eventually break if not looked after.
Corruption Mechanic
The Alcara Constellation will corrupt and alter all the Altar Effects for each
Constellation. Currently these effects have not been discovered:
Constellation Effect
Original: Hostile mobs and projectiles are repelled away from the
Pedestal. Nearby entities gain resistance and absorption.
Armara
Corrupt: Appears to buff mobs in speed and attack (unsure about
defense) and are no longer repelled.
Original: Hostile mobs near the Pedestal take damage over time.
Discidia
Corrupt: Damages Players; Resistance 3 on monsters; Inner wealth
buff to animals (up to level 7 for 20 mins).
Evorsio
Corrupt: Literally shits random blocks everywhere in all XYZ coords
(ore-gen included).
Original: Entities near the Pedestal receive Jump Boost and Speed.
Enables Creative like Flight.
Vicio
Bootes
Corrupt: Kills animals instantly while also giving them some form of
inner wealth. It will kill baby animals as well.
Fornax
Corrupt: Similar to Evorsio in that it shits out tons of ice blocks literally
everywhere.
Horologium
Corrupt: Freezes time for all monsters AND machines. Also, a LOT of
particle effects. Light and lightning-like textures.
*Note that empowering this ritual does not increase its range.
Mineralis
Corrupt: It will place stone with ore gen under your feet if there are
gaps in the floor. It will not replace any blocks. If you are standing on
grass, nothing will happen. But as soon as you jump, a 3x3 area of
stone will generate. Spiders also cause this to happen since they can
climb. It will NOT convert stone to ores though, just the ones
generated by walking around after you jump.
Octans
Corrupt: Spawns water EVERYWHERE (all XYZ coordinates it seems).
The Mantle of the Stars requires ANY Crystal and ANY leather chest plate. When
crafting this Mantle it will make a default BLANK Mantle.DO NOT ENCHANT THIS
YET.
Attuned Mantle of Stars
The Mantle has great protection but you can improve it by attuning it.
Unfortunately you can’t use the Attunement Altar. Instead you have to use the
Iridescent Altar (the one you crafted the Mantle in). Pick a Constellation you wish
to attune the Mantle to. I would suggest you choose the same Constellation that
you bound YOURSELF to.
In the Tome, look for that Constellation (under the Constellations Tab) and scroll to
the end. This will tell you what ingredients you need in the Iridescent Altar and in
the Relays once you start crafting.
It's also VERY important you insert a Celestial ATTUNED Crystal into the Table on
the left:
These Mantles are VERY enchantable and can be done with either the Refraction
Table or via the vanilla methods (books in an anvil, etc.).
There are a total of 12 different MANTLES and each has its own properties:
Armara
Orbs will fly around you and nullify incoming damage. Each orb will
disappear for each point of damage and take a little time to reappear.
Evorsio
This has some disadvantages. If you mine up an area with a wood tool
and there are ores or other materials that wood cannot mine (such as
obsidian) then it will be destroyed.
Vicio
Will allow Elytra-style flying.
Discidia
Will allow you to Reflect damage. This works better with PVP than with
mobs.
Aevitas
Lets you see mobs (passive or aggressive) through objects. These show on
screen as a bunch of yellow glowing orbs. Lets you see spawners (these
will be red).
Bootes
You will generate Flares around you which will attack mobs that attack
you.
Fornax
Will give you immunity to fire. Being on fire will give you benefits such as
Health Gain, but if you stand on STONE while on fire, the stone block will
turn into lava. Great for swimming around in the Nether but bad for
Mining.
Pelotrio
As you chop down trees, mine or damage mobs, little ghost axes, swords
and pickaxes will help you. This is random.
Mineralis
When holding a block in your hand, you will see a white square at the
locations in which that block appears in the world. For example, if you
hold redstone ore in your hand, you will be able to see where there is
redstone ore.
Octans
Allows you to breathe underwater. Will also let you swim faster and will
also let you mine underwater with no restrictions.
Horologium
Will create a time stop effect on nearby machines and mobs. This has a 30
second cooldown.
Wands
There are a few new wands at your disposal but, unlike the Mantle, when creating
these you DO need to use an attuned Crystal. You will need to create a second
Resonating Wand to activate the Altar.
You can use 2 wands if you wish and each wand has its own abilities:
Armara Wand
While holding the wand in your offhand and right-clicking, it will act like a
shield. You will take massively reduced damage from anything, including fall
damage. When you are melee attacked, it will push back the attacker and
reflect projectiles. If you are still getting damaged by another attacker you will
gain resistance and absorption.
Discidia Wand
While in hand, the more consecutive hits you do to an enemy, the more
damage you will do (up to double of your normal damage).
Evorsio Wand
While in hand, while you mine out large chunks of a similar material around
you. This has a cooldown.
Aevitas Wand
While in hand, creates a pathway below your feet allowing you to walk on air
and climb the sky by jumping. Going down requires you to unequip the wand.
Vicio Wand
While in hand, holding right-click will pull the wand back (like a bow) and
letting go will launch you forward. You will go further vertically then you will
horizontally. Using this with the Vicio mantle or a vanilla elytra allows for a
ridiculous amount of movement. You can launch yourself straight up into the
air, activate the elytra, then use the wand some more. You will go very fast and
you can go anywhere you want, no matter the height. Amazing for escaping
bosses or other players. You can also get rid of any fall damage by activating it
in a short burst midair.
The Evershifting Fountain is made up of four parts. The idea behind it is that the
Fountain will extract liquids from below bedrock. These liquids are not infinite so
you have to move the Fountain to drain other liquids from other places around the
world.
The main liquids are water and lava, and in order to find out where these liquids
are you will need an Ichosic Resonator. When walking (or flying) around with this in
your hand you will notice little Red and Blue fountains coming out of the ground:
This will tell you where there are water or lava deposits. You will need to build your
Ever Shifting Fountain above one of these points.
!!! When you sneak-click the Ichosic Resonator it will act like a Fosic Resonator.
Check your Astral Tome for details on how to build the Fountain. Once built, you
will need to add more parts to it in order for it to work fully.
To finish off the Fountain you will need a Chalice on top of it and a Neromantic
Prime on the bottom of the Fountain.
Once in place the only thing left to do is add Liquid Starlight to the Chalice. This will
start the Fountain. Before fully starting the Fountain you want to add a few
Chalices around the Fountain to collect the water or lava below Bedrock. When the
Fountain starts, it will dig below it to bedrock and mine up any blocks in the way.
These blocks will be dropped around the Fountain. The Fountain will continue to
fill up surrounding Chalices with either water or lava until the Starlight has run out
of the Chalice on top of the Fountain. Once the Lava or Water “pool” has been
exhausted the fountain will stop and you will need to move the entire structure in
order to start the whole process again.
Remember that if you put any blocks on the inside of the structure it will stop, on
top is fine but not inside.
Fysalldic Prime
The Fysalldic Prime is set up in the exact same way as the Neromantic Prime. It
also runs on Liquid Starlight, but has a very different function. When fed enough
Liquid Starlight, it will start to suck up nearby mobs and freeze them in place.
