What Is A Musical Play?
= A musical play is a form of theatrical
presentation that is composed of a combination of songs,
spoken dialogue, acting and dancing.
Our Own Understanding: musical plays are very nice to watch
and are very interesting and fascinating. It has a really great
story which is interpreted in an amazing way on a form of
acting and more.
Do your Research;

“Musical theatre is a form of theatrical performance that

combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting and dance. The
story and emotional content of a musical – humor,
pathos, love, anger – are communicatd through the
words, music, movement, and technical aspects of the
entertainment as an integrated whole. Although musical
theatre overlaps with other theatrical forms like OPERA
and dance, it may be distinguished by the equal
importance given to the music as compared with the
dialogue, movement, and other elements. Since the early
20th century , musical theatre stage works have generally
been called, simply, MUSICALS.”
How Is An Idea Or A Story Presented In A Musical Play
Or Video?
=An idea including the emotional content of a musical-
love, anger, nostalgia, bemusement, and/or humor, -is
presented through the use of music and drama elements like
dialogue, movement, space, stage, scenery, costumes, and
special effects.
Our Own Understanding; an idea can be presented in a musical
play in many various and numerous ways. And we learned that
it is matched and completed with many other aspects of a
musical.
Do Your Research;

“The idea or the story in a musical play is presented in a live

performance by combining songs, dance numbers, dialogues
and even acting . These are the means in which the story or the
concept will be presented and made to understood and
appreciated by students.”
How IS An Idea In A Play Presented?
=In a musical play, an idea is matched with n
instrumental music or song that carrries a similar theme, and is
used to serve either as an accompaniment or as a carrier of
dialogue. The idea that surfaces or that is accompanied by
music is then presented in a live performance ora recorded
one for a scheduled show.
Our Own Understanding: an idea, which is consisted of
emotional contents, can be presented through acting and
feeling the drama. On heinsight, it is hard to present an idea to
a musical play.
How Are The Theatrical Elements In A Selected Part Of
A Musical Play Combined With Music And Media?
=In a musical play, theatrical elements like dialogue,
acting, scenery, and lighting are combined with music. Dialogue
surfaces as lyrics of a song. Its melody is used to highlight mood
and tone. Acting is accompanied with either song or
instrumental music. Scenery is presented using props, that
symbolize locations like trees for a park, a chair or table for a
part of a house, a huge image of a car for street. Etc. Lighting
and other forms of sound are also added to produce effects.
More importantly, instrumental music that carries parallel
themes is included to establish the play’s main theme.
-According to Kenny Chan of Theatre Ontario, music is used to
establish mood and to provide background noise. Music may be
presented live or recorded.
What Are The Elements Of A Musical?
= Melody , harmony, rhythm, and form, and the expressive
elements of dynamics, tempo, and timbre. The simultaneous
sounding of two or more tones. The combinations of long and
short, even or uneven sounds that convey a sense of movement
in time.

The Elements Of A Musical Include The Following;

1. The SCORE
= is written by a composer. It is the music for the entire show,
which is composed of a number of songs. Songs are
incorporated into the the story when the scene is changing , a
character has made a decision, two characters are ineracting ,
or when the story needs a pick-me-up dialogue.

2. The LYRICS
= are the words to the songs. These are words that make up a
song usually consisting of verses and choruses. The writer of
lyrics is a lyricst. The words to an extended musical composition
such as an opera are however, usually known as a libretto and
their writer, as a librettist. The meaning of lyrics are abstract,
almost unintelligible. And in such cases, their explication
emphasizes form, articulation , meter and symmetry of
expression. Rappers can also create lyrics that are meant to be
spoken rhythmically rather than sung.

3. The SCRIPT
=which is also known as the book, is the dialogue that the
actors speak. It is a handwriting as distinct print or written
characters. It is also the written text of a play, movie, or
broadcast.
