Challenges to be addressed

Copyright Protection of intellectual property;   protection  against pirated copies/counterfeits;  encryption of print data

Original vs.
Counterfeit Distinction between original and counterfeit; enforcement of copyrights ;

Liability Warranty and product liability;  defense of unjustified claims.

Security Only authorized access;  secure identification and  authorization

Safety No unapproved changes of product data;   no changes of product features;
Tampered printing data and their consequences

A team of scientists demonstrated an attack against 3D printing data

by hacking into the data of a drone rotor and introducing a hidden
cavity causing malfunction during service and severe safety risks.

 Presenting an early demonstrator with first project results

 Demonstration along the process chain:
 Uploading CAD data to GlobalX
 Awarding a licence to a print shop
 3D printing and licence check

 Results:
 A clear milestone provided a clear goal for the team
 additional customer insights
 good media coverage

Process steps on the Blockchain
What happens in Ethereum?

 When sufficient nodes confirmed the

licence transaction it is being added to
the Blockchain.
 There it stays „forever“ and is
immutable
 The verification and confirmation is
done based on the rules implemented
in the Smart Contract.

03/2017, Kompf 41
Proceedings on the Blockchain
Transaction and Eventlog
 The transaction writes an eventlog
to the Blockchain which contains the
corresponding licence parameters.
