TORQUING
WHEELS
Incorrect Wheel Nut Torque Can Be Dangerous
x they don't matter as long as the
Incorrect torque and sequence of torque application causes such
problems as distorted rotors, some to such a degree as to render the ABS
braking system inoperable, out of balance wheels, broken or fractured
wheel suds, increased tyre wear caused by misalignment, increased o%or
and dis pad wea, crackedallay wheels leading to total failure ofthe wheel,

The car manufactures have placed specific tolerances on the loads
spplied to wheel nuts, this being calculated taking into account the
clamping load required to hold the whee! in place, the std size, the
‘material the whee] is made from (tis quite common fo
values co be specified for alloy and stel wheels onthe same vehicle) and a
satiety of other aspects, Once we move outside thor tolerances specified

Brake pedal pulsation may be caused by improper machining of the
dise rotors, normal wear, rust on the mounting surfaces of by incorrect
torquing of the wheel nuts. In reality, most brake pedal pulsation problems
can be traced to improper torguing of the wheel nuts, which distorts the
dise rotor and causes run out. >

Speedo Sensor
hie base level BA Falcon has a Speedo sensor in the eransmission
the same as the previot models did, ‘The sensor is a 19-tooth,
gear driven Hall effect sensor and it provides the PCM with a 0-5
vole square wave signal. Tie information is then transmisted to other
modules that require vehicle speed information, such asthe instrument
cluster, via the CAN (Control Area Network) BUS, However, BA
Falcons that have ABS or Traction Control have deleted the Speedo
signal sensor from the side of the transmission, This can present
problems if we are attaching accessories such as a Taximeter that
require a Speedo signal for correct operation,
‘The PCM is supplied with a signal from the ABS/Traction control
module, however itis best not to ure this signal to avoid compromising
the integrity of this system. The PCM is designed to supply a Vehicle

this signal be wed if you require accessing the Vehicle Speed signal. This
is Ibelled VSOUT (Vehicle Speed Ourput) and comes from the PCM

“This signal can be accessed by frst removing the LH suff place and
then the LH kick Panel. Once these aze removed you can easily acces the
