THE HISTORY OF THE FLAG OF THE PHILIPPINES

According to Tom Wolfe. That flag is a symbol we attach our emotions to,but it is not the
emotion itself and it is not the thing we really care about.sometimes we do not even realize
what we really care about ,because we get so distracted by the symbols

On May 28,1898 after the return of General Emilio Aguinaldo from exile in Hong Kong.It was in
this skimnish that the Philippine flag was first unfurled as the revolutionary
standard.Throughout the Filipino Revolutionary War until the capture of Aguinaldo that
precipitated the end of the Philippine-American War ,the flag of the same design was flown
with the red field on the top to denote a state of war.Aguinaldo wrote about this unique
feature of the Philippines flag in a letter to Captain Emmanuel A. Baja.Meanwhile the Second
Philippines Republic was established in the islands under the auspices of the Empire of the
Japan with Jose P Laurel serving as president. The flag was raised by former President Emilio
Aguinaldo and General Artemio Ricarte during the inaugural of the second Republic on October
14,1943.Upon Aguinaldo’s capture, the Philippine Republic was abolished the American insular
Government ,under the jurisdiction of the U.S.War Department, was established. With the war
over and Philippines leaders officially accepting American sovereignty over the islands, the
Philippine flag was flown with the blue field on the top.The eight-rayed sun symbolizes the first
eight provinces Manila,Cavite,Batangas,Bulacan,Laguna,Pampanga,Tarlac,Nueva Ecija and the
three stars represented the three main island groups like Luzon,Visayas, and Mindanao.Every
Filipino must be respect the flag because as a Filipino we should be proud that we are living in
the place that known as hospitable one and have a tourist spot that other cannot have.Without
the helped of Marcela Agoncillo who sewed the flag and we should be proud because we have
the heroes that sacrifice their lives to all of us Filipinos.Dr.Jose Rizal he was the one who led the
Filipinos to start a revolution against to the Spanish government. The Philippine flag bears three
colors, three stars, and a sun and theb red color of the flag symbolize of Filipino courage whichis
second to none. The first flag hoisted on May 28,1898.From 1919 to 1914 flag day was
celebrated on October of every year by virtue of proclamation no.18.Being aq Filipino there are
proud side in it by having a good cultural being like there were foreign people visiting our
country by spotted view of the Philippines. The Philippine flag sewed by Marcela Marino de
Agoncillo and Delfina Herbosa de Natividad.

According to the curator of the Aguinaldo shrine. It is important revist the history of the flag
and be reminded of how our heroes fought for our independence. It is symbol of who we are of
what happened in the past, and what it represents for us.Criously their call is similar with the
one made by President Rodrigo Duterte in his independence day.The white triangle is symbolic

of peace ,red symbolizes bravery and blue represents patriotism. The Philippine flag is unique in
that it can indicate a state of war.The Japenese sponsored second republic of the Philippines
flew the flag with the blue stripe up from it is proclamation in 1943 until President Jose P.
Laurel proclaimed the existence of staten of war with the alied powers in 1944.If the red color
is on top and the blue color is below. It means that the country is on war. Therefore is an
alternative to flying it at half-mast.I think the same thing applies to the Philippines flag.Julian
Felipe who composed the Philippine anthem ‘’LUPANG HINIRANG’’.Jana Gana Mana is the who
sung the national anthem. It first sung in Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress on 27
December 1911
