CORRELATION OF SOIL HIDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY

FROM THE RESUL OF CPT TEST

An approximate estimate of soil hydraulic conductivity or coefficient of permeability, k, can be

made from an estimate of soil behavior type using the CPT charts as following figure.

Table below provides estimates based on the CPT charts shown in Figures above. These
estimates are approximate at best, but can provide a guide to variations of possible permeability.

SBT SBT Range of k

Zone (m/s)
1 Sensitive fine-grained 3x10 to 3x10-8
-10

2 Organic soils - clay 1x10-10 to 1x10-8

3 Clay 1x10-10 to 1x10-9
4 Silt mixture 3x10-9 to 1x10-7
5 Sand mixture 1x10-7 to 1x10-5
6 Sand 1x10-5 to 1x10-3
7 Dense sand to gravelly sand 1x10-3 to 1
8 *Very dense/ stiff soil 1x10-8 to 1x10-3
9 *Very stiff fine-grained soil 1x10-9 to 1x10-7
*Overconsolidated and/or cemented
From the result of boring log, it can be seen that soil stratigraphy at project location was
dominated by sand, with density was medium – dense sand. With that condition, it can predict
that the soil hidraulic conductivity of soil will be range at 1x10-5 to 1x10-2 m/s.
