Career Plan

My Goals: To become a Social Studies Teacher (Middle or High School Level).

Short Term:
 Register for Fall & Spring Courses at Robeson Community College
 Meet with Career Advisor at Vocational Rehabilitation Center
 Meet with Academic Advisor at Robeson Community College
 Enroll in the BraveStep Program.
 Join the Student North Carolina Association of Education

Long Term:
 Graduate from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a Bachelor of
Arts in History: Social Studies Education.
 Pass the North Carolina Standard Professional I licensure exam
 To become employed as a Middle School or High School Social Studies Teacher

 North Carolina Standard Professional I license

Career Description
Social Studies teachers instruct students on the concepts of history, government,
economics, as well as current and major events. Teachers provide students with lesson plans,
assignments, and homework, while also providing in-class learning activities.

Expected Earnings:
According to CFNC.org, (n.d) the expected salary for a middle school teacher is $44,000.
It is also reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (n.d) that between 2016 and 2026, the
employment rate of teachers is expected to grow by 8%.
Career Plan
Current Volunteer or Work Experience:
Currently, I do not have any work or volunteer experience. I do plan to apply for
employment opportunities on the campus of Robeson Community College during the Fall 2019
semester. I am also planning to meet with former High School Teachers about volunteer
opportunities in classroom settings.
