Luckily for you there is always a warm place to go on Tuesday nights between 8pm-10pm.
So come join us at KH Toastmasters this Tuesday for when our VIP guests will be Bob
Kienzle’s Global Culture class from SKKU.

Sunday Speech Night Meeting Summary for 2nd November 2010

Theme: Advanced Club Agenda Night

There are 2 advanced Toastmasters clubs in Seoul, SATM and GHTM but on Tuesday, if only for one day,
KH Toastmasters joined the ranks of the advanced.

last Sunday at an uber-trendy café /
museum near Gyeongbokgong Palace
called Aa Design Museum for a laid-back
and fun night of speeches.
The night was hosted by KHTM’s
Secretary Kate and Sook Young.
Although I wasn’t there to witness, I was
told that there were some excellent
speeches by Kate and Lieutenant of
Leadership Robyn Pazicni, among
others.
an advanced club, as the only Presidents Distinguished club
in Seoul; KH Toastmasters boasts of 12 advanced speakers .
On Tuesday, we added one more to that total, as Patty Kim
a Distinguished Toastmaster from Louisiana joined KHTM as a
guest of honour.
Speaking of advanced speakers, soon-to-be DTM Bob Kienzle
hosted the evening which ran off the advanced club agenda, which
focuses on high level speeches and evaluations.
The speeches kicked off with Peter , working from the Storytelling
Advanced Manual. Peter informed us how to use passive-aggressive
techniques to get old woman to stop rubbing against you on the
subway. Next up was Saurabh, also using the Storytelling Advanced Manual, who told us a personal story
about the four loves of his life and how they influenced and changed him as a person.
Lastly, our special guest Patty spoke about her memories about the first time she visited Korea, many years
ago, and how much the country has changed since. She started the speech by singing “Oklahoma” and
“Arirang” which was a wonderful touch to a terrific speech.

Tip of the Week
Tips on How to Make a Great Toast
Interested in a few tips on how to propose a good toast? These
days, the tradition of toasting is rarely executed well. It can be a
useful skill to have for formal events, such as weddings and
birthdays, or for KHTM’s 2cha.
Here are some tips on how to give a great toast.
 Keep it short – no more than a couple of minutes.
Brevity is the soul of wit.
 Practice. Think about what you want to say, and
practice the toast in advance. Use friends as sounding
boards beforehand.
 Speak slowly, clearly and loudly (if no microphone is
available).
 Be positive. This is not the time to recite the groom’s
college pranks.
 Stay sober. Being coherent helps.
 Dress your best. If you look good, you’ll feel more
confident.
 Use humor – but keep it clean. Don’t refer to “inside
jokes” only a few people will understand.
 In summary – End on a bright note. Be sincere, be
brief, be seated.
 If you are on the receiving end of the toast, stay
seated and don’t drink the toast to yourself. At the end
of the toasts, it’s your turn to make some comments.

It's movie night, what movie are we watching first?
"Equilibrium" the reason is, 1: I like main actor 'Christian Bale' ,
2: the title is very interesting, 3: the story - For equality,
people inject drug to eradicates any sensitivity and conflict,
Sooo sad. 4: the action - GREAT!!
I need a book for a long flight, what do you recommend?
If you don't want to sleep, and just want to read,
"GOOGLED" is the best choice. WHY?? 1. It has tons of
pages 2. surely you get into the story (but a little boring at
first) 3. the story turns just like horror and scary movie at the
end.
It's your last meal, what is on your plate?
Last meal means the end of my life? If then....
I'm not gonna eat anything, I'll do something like,
"I'll plant an apple tree nearby Hyewha station!!"
The bartender asks: "What are you drinking". What is your answer?
Alcohol... but if bartender want to know my feeling or another meaning when I
drink, I'll say "RELATIONSHIP"
You gave your 'ice breaker' speech not long ago, how did you feel after
giving that speech? Prison Break! Feeing like getting out of egg, and now I can
see the another step more deeply.When we have our something done, things
around us can be changed a lot even though we're so sure about something.
Also, Ice-breaker does. I feel more comfortable and I could have more challenge
You are a proud father, do you have any tips for dads or soon-to-be
dads? All men want to be that kind of person. It's really important for dad to be
consistent.
What are your upcoming goals inside and outside of KHTM? Although I just
finish my first speech, I want to give something good to somebody in KHTM. Most
people rarely clap and cheer other, but KHTM people always do that. I think that
is very attractive to members and especially guests. KHTM has numerous
benefits like a Positive attitude, professional speaking/evaluation, educative story,
enjoyable event, funny things(also important learning points for speaking like
picture, gesture, etc.) yes, a lot! My upcoming goal is to learn these benefits and I
want to share these benefits with KHTM people.
