COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course is an introduction to franchising as a method of retail business in which the investor/franchisee makes an investment in the form of a franchise fee in
exchange for the right to promote goods, services, and/or processes directly to the public. It provides a discussion of the necessary steps to successfully enter
franchising, basic operations of franchise systems and the legal context in which they operate. It also examines the franchisor-franchisee relationship that brings with
it an interdependent contractual obligation that is legally binding upon both parties. Current issues of vital importance to franchising are also explored.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:


1. Explain fundamental concepts, principles, practices and processes in franchising.
2. Identify and examine emerging trends and issues as they impact on franchising, both local and global.
3. Develop and present a franchisee business plan.
4. Inculcate the value of ethics and social responsibility in franchising as a method of doing business.
