The prolonged debate in India about “Padmavati” has become talk of the town now. The
entire saga reeks of ulterior motive which is not simple to decode. This has all started because
of power that matters to most politics. The patron behind Karni Sena Lokendra Singh Kalvi is
trying to save their dignity by blaming all these on the Singh’s comment. All the political
people are trying to get the best out of this trending controversy. The Rajput community have
faced a major decline in their socio-political influence. Their numbers have declined in
government services. To be in the highlight they are using padmavati debate as a decoy so
that they can get their influencing position in government again.
The existence of rani padmavati is still not proved as many stories are attached to her
actuality. One story depicts her character was first mention by sufi poet malik muhammad
jayasi who wrote it after 250 years of Khiljhi's Chittor invasion. Also, there is a story related
to alauddin which shows him as an able administrator, a canny and brave conqueror and a
ruthless ruler who would never besiege for any reason beside political expediency and a mad
desire to rule the world rather like his personal hero, Alexander the Great. He had even taken
to referring to himself as Sikander Sani, Alexander the Second. If their existence in history is
not clear then there is no need to get Hindutva sentiments in the middle of this argument.
BJP is supporting Rajput as their votes consists of 6% in Gujarat which they need to substitute
patidar community’s votes. They were their main vote bank in the past which they have lost
during anandi ben’s political rule because she was not able to handle patidar agitation. She
was replaced by Vijay Rupani but damage was already done so patidar would not give their
votes to BJP so they need to look for other options. Also, BJP was not able to cash votes on
the communal sentiments of hindus as no communal riots have taken place since 2002. As a
true opponent Congress Mp Shashi Tharoor is taking an opposite stand than BJP by saying
that freedom of speech or expression should not come at stake with the help of violence.
Although some might say that Marxist historians in India have maligned their heroes like Sivaji
and Maharana Pratap and made heroes out of bigots and murderers like Aurangzeb, Tipu
Sultan and Allauddin Khaljhi so it has become a sign of dignity for hindus.
