The research plan must include the following:

A) Problem/s

1. Does it compete with the effectiveness of the commercial brand of mosquito coil?

2. Can it be an alternative for emergencies such as power outage in a specific area?

3. Is there a possibility that a banana peelings can be a candle wax?

B) Hypothesis/Objectives

Null: Banana peelings and lemongrass cannot be used as a wax for mosquito repellent

candle.

Alternative: Banana peelings and lemongrass can be used as a wax for mosquito repellent

candle.

C) Methods/Procedure

1. Collecting and Acquisitioning of Banana Peelings, Lemongrass and Used Candles

  Collecting of Banana Peelings

 The researchers will collect 1 kilo of banana peelings at the market of Iligan

City.

 Acquisitioning of Lemongrass

 The researchers will buy 2 bundles of lemongrass at the market of Iligan City.

 Collecting of Used Candles

 The researchers will collect half kilo of used candles in churches of Iligan

City.

3. Making of the Mosquito Repellent Candle

 Cleaning of Banana Peelings and Lemongrass

 The 1 kilo of banana peelings and the 2 bundles of lemongrass will be cleaned

with a tap water.

 Cutting of Lemongrass

 Cut the newly cleaned lemongrass into tiny pieces. (Precaution: Be careful in

using the scissors.)

 Melting of Used Candles

 Break the half kilo used candles into pieces using your hands.

 The used candles will be put into a cooking pot and melt it

 Mixing of the Used Candles and the Kerosene

 When the candles are completely melted, get the cooking pot out of the stove

and pour the 250 mL kerosene then mix it using a spatula.

 Boiling of the Ingredients

  Add the banana peelings to the cooking pot after pouring the kerosene then

boil it for 10 minutes.

 Getting of Banana Peelings and Adding of Lemongrass

 Using kitchen tongs, get the banana peelings out of the cooking pot.

 Add the pieces of lemongrass to the cooking pot and mix it using a spatula.

 Transferring of the Mixture

 Place the candle wick into the center of the molder.

 Pour the mixture into the molder and make sure that the candle wick is steady

in the center.

 Cool the mixture for 24 hours.

4. Testing of the Mosquito Repellent Candle

 Place the mosquito repellent candle in a dark room which there are lot of

mosquito and lit it then observe.
