College Commitment Pledge

Use as a culminating piece once students are well-versed in the 4 KnowHow2GO steps.

1. Discuss with students what they’ve learned about how to go to college. If it would
be more impactful, write these questions on the board and have students respond by
writing individually.
What activities or conversations impacted you the most?
What did you not know before in relation to preparing for college?
What steps have you taken to prepare for college?
What steps do you plan to take to prepare for college?

2. Offer the “College Commitment Pledge” (on the next page) to students who want to
make a decision today about following the goal to go to college.

a. To recognize the importance of this pledge, hang it in the classroom or in a visual

spot in the school, or give it to parents at parent-teacher conferences to spark a
conversation about the importance of early college planning.
My College Commitment Pledge

Four KnowHow2GO steps to follow to make college a reality:

Step 1. Be a pain-in a good way. Find an adult to help guide you to college.
Step 2. Push yourself. Take challenging courses in high school – and get involved in
extracurricular activities.
Step 3. Find the right fit. Think about your career interests and then research colleges that fit
those interests.
Step 4. Put your hands on some cash. Money is available to help you pay for college, but you
have to apply!

I pledge to follow the four KnowHow2GO steps to prepare for college because I know college
can provide more job options, a chance to earn higher pay, and skills to do well in a variety of
jobs. I understand the benefits of going to college for myself, my family, and my community.

I pledge to tell my classmates they can also go to college and that they should follow the steps
to prepare for it.

If I need help preparing for college, I will ask for help from a trusted adult in my life. I can also go
to EducationQuest.org for college planning help.

I know a college education is within reach for me. I’ve got what it takes. I commit to actively
pursue college.
