Mark Welson Chua’s contribution on NSTP Law

My knowledge about NSTP is not wide because it is new to me. I do not know who’s the
people involve in establishing this Law or what is the purpose of this Act. The date its existence,
vision, mission and etc. There are a lot of question forming in my mind, but one of those stand
up and that is, who is this Mark Welson Chua? Is he connected to this NSTP Law? And the answer
is both. Because of his contribution, it change the program for the graduation of male College
students in the Philippines.

Before when I’m on my junior and Senior High School I’m already aware of military
training like ROTC that stands for Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. And now new components of
training is been introduced to me. As I researched, Mark Welson Chua is a Filipino student who
take his college degree in University of Santo Tomas. He is a member of ROTC units that monitors,
he knows everything about what is happening inside the organization like corruption. And the
moment he knew it with the help of other students, they reported it to their school’s official
publication called The Varsitarian. Along with this is the relief of the commandant major named
Demy Tejares and his staff. And because of his death it becomes the way of establishing the
Republic Act 9163 or the National Service Training Program (NSTP). I can say now that the
establishing of NSTP is just because of the death of Mark Welson Chua.

In Senior High School, I already know the purpose of military training. Undergoing in this
such kind of training will not only boost my skill and will also harness my skill in surviving and
battling. National Service Training Program or NSTP Law aimed for the youth to be prepare in any
situation that will blow anytime or anywhere so that when that time will come we are aware on
what to do. And because of the death of Mark Welson Chua the adjustment made by the
government like the mandatory ROTC in the Philippines is no more.

They believed that the killing of Mark Welson Chua is connected to what he did in ROTC
organization like exposing the corruption inside the organization. According to my research, the
newly ROTC commandant advised him to take training in security at Fort Bonifacio. On the day
that they planned to meet an agent was not happen. And that they he was never seen alive again.
A few day later, a decomposing body was found wrapped in a carpet floating in the waters of
Pasig River. The body that was found undergo an autopsy in order to know its identity and caused
of its death. The autopsy report showed a sludge in lungs indicating that the man is still alive
when it was thrown into the river of Pasig.

To sum up all my learnings and new knowledge gain in this. Learning the NSTP is not
enough but learning its history is the best thing to do in order to know the origin and how it I
made. Who are the personalities involved in making this Law and what is the purpose of making
this law and its components. And it is clear to me now that because of the death of Mark Welson
Chua it gives the way to NSTP Law to be establish.
