Dear Friends,

It is my pleasure to put forward my candidacy for IMS delegate and introduce myself to you.

My name is Eleni Vasileiou and over the past months I was working as Policy and Campaign
intern in LYMEC. Since 2013 I have been advocating the liberal ideas at an EU level but most
importantly in Greece, where I am originally from.

During my time in LYMEC, apart from assisting the Bureau with our EU Elections Campaign,
I also reviewed the policy book. Therefore, I am convinced that knowing the policy book by
heart would be a great asset to our delegation, taken into account that we are only a few
months away from our next Congress. Currently our policy book contains many outdated
resolutions and this gives us plenty of space to come up with new ideas and policies. My goal
is for the IMS to submit at least one resolution in the upcoming Congress.

Moreover, by implementing the IMS challenge ahead of the EU Elections I came to realise
that by engaging our IMS base into activities has an impact to the organisation. This is why I
am currently working on a detailed communications plan that will enhance our social media
presence in LYMEC and will provide us with a platform to spread our ideas and attract new
members.

I believe that the Individual Member Section is a great pool of liberal individuals that we can
help LYMEC grow and flourish. Furthermore, as a woman I will make sure that our voices and
ideas will be heard among the IMS and LYMEC and secure a more gender balanced IMS
delegation. As gender equality is becoming a hot topic in the EU politics, I am convinced that
getting elected as a delegate will be a strong statement that LYMEC values women. Today
across the world, young women continue to face gender-based discrimination,
marginalization, and violence, including unequal access to education and opportunities for
leadership and participation. This is our unique opportunity as Individual Members to show
everyone that gender is a social structure and women can take up leadership positions and
deliver results.

These are some of my ideas and vision for the future development of the IMS section of
LYMEC. As a team player I am convinced that a single person cannot achieve our goal for a
more open and stronger Individual Members Section. I am confident that together in the spirit
of liberalism, openness, innovation and joint effort there are no obstacles we cannot overcome!

Let’s do this together!

With liberal regards from Brussels,

Eleni
