Our study is related to the leading cause of death around the world aged 5-29 years.

Some of you

may be thinking “It must be about drugs, AIDS or any kind of disease related”. No, because

more than a million people dies every year due to road crashes making it the leading cause of

death on the said age bracket. Which can be prevented or at least be minimized by implementing

Road/Highway Safety which will be our topic for today.

Now, in Cavite specifically along Governor’s Drive.a We have gathered data of the road crash

investigation report that happened along Governor’s Drive, which is from Naic to Carmona

Municipalities. Of course, accidents may occur anytime and anywhere but there are some areas

on the road where road crashes happen at a higher rate, this is called Black Spots. The question is

why? What is it about certain areas that makes it accident prone than the others? If we can

understand the environmental factors that causes the incident, then we can alter the environment

to promote highway safety.

But to answer that question, we have to find out where are these black spots. So we used

techniques which we first identify the black spots using the Classic Statistical Method

(Insert very brief explanation about the data/method)

We have found out that 19 out of 42 sections are black spots that were due to its environmental

conditions such as low visibility during night, low maintenance of pavement marking and

inadequate warning signs. Seems that the problems are very simple, but still we must consider to

save lives and avoid injuries by making a solution. We came up with a proposal on which we are

going to install street lights, implement proper maintenance of road markings and installation of

needed warning signs.

Before we end this presentation, I would like to share you a word from the late Steve Jobs

saying, “Design is not how it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” It only reminds

us as a future engineer that we don’t need to complicate things. Simple problems can be solve by

simple solutions as long as we thoroughly analyze and exert our full effort.
