The Maginoo was inclusive of several different types of people, including

Maharlika, Datu and Panginoon. These were considered the leaders of the society and
held positions as chiefs, warriors and slave owners. The Timawa class was
historically the class of citizens who had bought their own freedom. They were free
to own land, move or change their allegiance to a different Datu if they desired.
The Alipin class was made up of slaves and debtors who worked to secure their
freedom but had no rights; the Alipin could not own property or marry.
