Purchas Cup Brisbane 2019

Information for Tour Participants Issue 1, April 2019

Dear Friends
This year the Purchas Cup - the ‘Bledisloe Cup’ of inclusive rugby - will be held in Brisbane on the
13th and 14th of September. The Chargers will play three games against our inclusive-rugby
brothers from across Australia and New Zealand in this the two-day tournament.
This is the first update from the Chargers tour sub-committee with two important tasks you must
complete during April 2019 to ensure we’re on track to Charge Brisbane in September.

Before 30 April 2019 you must:

 Register your intention to come to Purchas with the Chargers (see below)
 Make a booking at the team hotel using our special rate (rate expires 30 April)

TASK 1: Register for the tour, even if you think you can’t attend
Register for the tour at bit.ly/Chargers-Purchas-Register even if you can’t attend or are not sure yet.
We’ll have lots of support for players in the leadup to the tour, so please register to receive these
important updates.

TASK 2: Arrange accommodation at the team hotel – no payment required

The club has arranged a special rate – only available until 30 April 2019 – at our team hotel the
Holiday Inn Express Brisbane City. Please note: you are NOT required to pay upfront when
booking.
 Help me find me a roommate: If you haven’t booked yet and want the club to match you
with a roommate and save money, swipe right on room-Tinder: bit.ly/Chargers-Purchas-
Room-Match
 I’m ready to book a room now: If you already have a roommate organised or want your
own room you can book directly with the hotel at http://bit.ly/Chargers-Purchas-Hotel

Touring can be expensive, but if you need help we can provide support
Although expensive, touring internationally and in Australia is one of the best things about being in
the Chargers – the fun you have is worth the hassle and cost! If you’re worried about money, have a
confidential discussion with our Treasurer or one of the Player Liaisons. Our player support fund
can assist with touring expenses.
On the reverse of this pamphlet we’ve included some general information that will help you to plans
for your trip. That’s all from the tour sub-committee for now — we’ll keep you up to date regularly.
Kind regards

Michael Edwards and Silas Palmer

Getting to Brisbane
All tour participants need to book and pay for their own flights. It’s a good idea
to book your flights early. You may want to consider setting up sale alerts with $200 to $500
your favourite airline or a site like SkyScanner.com to catch a great deal. If you
have the time you can also get to Brisbane by bus, train or car.

Accommodation Lower: $114

The Chargers has organised a special rate with the Holiday Inn Express (two nights at
team hotel shared
Brisbane City if you book before the end of April. We strongly endorse this
with a teammate)
option for everyone from the Chargers.
Upper: $342
You are, however, welcome to find alternate accommodation in the Spring Hill
(three nights at
area, but please check the walking distance from the Holiday Inn Express team hotel all by
because we won’t be making our team buses wait for your fancy butts. yourself)

Food and spending money

We all have different tastes and appetites, we recommend you include some
$150 to 300
discretionary funds in your budget to cover your meals and discretionary
transport such as train tickets, Ubers and transfers etc.

*while care has been taken to provide an accurate indication, costs are of an indicative nature and may change without notice.
