I. Objectives
CLASSES WERE SUSPENDED DUE TO HEAVY RAINS
A. Content Standards
The learners demonstrate understanding of different techniques to separate mixtures.
B. Performance Standards
The learners should be able to separate desired materials from common and local
products.
C. Learning Competency
1. Enumerate techniques in separating mixtures such as picking, winnowing, decantation,
use of magnet, sieving, filtering, and evaporation. (S6MT-Id-f-2)
- Separate insoluble solid in a liquid using decantation.
2. Work cooperatively during the activity
3. Show appreciation of the different techniques to separate mixtures
II. Subject Matter:
Separate immiscible liquids by using decantation
A. Concept:
Decantation is a process for the separation of mixtures, by removing a layer of
liquid, generally one from which a precipitate has settled. The purpose may be
either to produce a clean decant, or to remove undesired liquid from the
precipitate (or other layers).

III. Learning Tasks:
A. Preliminary Activities:
1. Checking of Assignment
2. Recall:
The teacher asks about the part of the activity the students performed the other
day.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation:
Show the graduated cylinder with colored water, oil and alcohol. Ask the class what
liquids are present in the cylinder. Ask how to separate mixtures with these kinds of
liquid.
2. Activity
2.1 Grouping
2.2 Group Activity
Do Activity 4.4 Heavy and Light Liquids.
5. Generalization
How do we separate mixtures using decantation?
6. Evaluation
Choose the answer in the word bank below.
1. It is a separating technique that separates insoluble substances to a solvent?
______________
2. A combination of two or more substances is called ____________.
3. A machine that helps us save our time and effort during laundering.
______________
4. It is a kind of sedimentation process which involves letting the heavier insoluble
substance to settle at the bottom of the liquid. _____________
5. A substance that will not dissolve in a solvent is called ____________.
7. Additional Activities
The student will watch a video that further explains the concepts of
decantation. The pupils will take note as they watch the video.
