Standard Re-Greasing TIMKEN
Standard Re-Greasing TIMKEN
All Timken “AP” bearing sizes for use on locomotive are available
to the no-field-lubrication (NFL) design with no lubricant
fitting. NFL design bearings do not require periodic field
lubrication during a wheel or tyre life period (up to 250,000
miles, 402 366 km). Under the NFL concept, grease is replenished
when the bearings are reworked at wheel or tyre replacement. If
wheel or tyre life periods are less or more than 250,000 miles
(402 366 km), further relubrication suggestions for NFL bearings
may be obtained by contacting The Timken Company.
Bearing equipped with lubricant fittings in the axle end cap may
be field lubricated if conditions warrant. It is suggested that
this be performed at some convenient shopping period which occurs
nearest to 125,000 miles (201 168 km) of operation such as wheel
turning, annual, or semiannual inspections.
