ing or delaying sand production throughout the life of a to determine if, how and when to implement control or pre-
well or field. These synergistic solutions address specific vention techniques. These solutions also define existing
sand problems, using proven processes, advanced analysis processes, analyze procedures and methodologies, and
techniques and innovative technology that goes far beyond develop the tools needed to solve problems. The process
standard mechanical sand-control methods. is complemented with a formal economic and risk analysis
as needed.
Prevention
The prevention phase begins with implementation of designs from the prediction
phase. Related techniques and services are integrated and executed by a dedi-
cated team of experts in the field to maintain the necessary balance to optimize
production. Techniques for sand management include openhole gravel packs,
screen or gravel-pack completions, completions specially designed to manage
produced sand, and screenless completions using fracturing with proppant
flowback control or oriented perforating.
Monitoring
Failure
tion to prevent mechanical failure that could induce sand production. Produced
fluids and solids are also measured to determine treatment effectiveness or the
onset of sand production. Sand production is monitored with scheduled wireline
production logging, downhole permanent sensors and intelligent completion
components. Data may be transferred in real time from the field to the office
through the InterACT* service.
Remediation
To control sand after initial production, treatments can be performed through tub-
ing or using innovative technologies. These remediation treatments include gravel
packs, screenless completions, and fracturing with improved proppant packing.
