Dear P.S.

195 Family,
Many of you may have passed the bulletin board this morning across from the office and
wondered what it was about. As mentioned above, a pineapple chart is a way for us to open
our classrooms up to our colleagues and share our best teaching and learning practices. It is
an informal, friendly way to say, “Hey, I’m doing something great in my classroom that I would
like to share with my colleagues” or “I have this great strategy I want share with others.”
The symbol of the pineapple represents hospitality and an invitation to visit. Think about
welcome door mats! Many have the symbol of a pineapple on it. This chart is a way for us to
learn from each other and celebrate each other’s expertise.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
1. Get a post-it and a marker
2. Choose a day and time when you will be teaching a great lesson
3. Jot down your name, room number, subject, and lesson objective on the post-it
4. Place the post-it on the pineapple chart on your chosen day and time
For teachers who are interested in viewing a colleague’s lesson and are not on a prep or
lunch, please let Ms. Fontnel know.

We are very excited about this initiative and look forward to participation from all. If you have
any additional questions, please speak to Ms. Fontnel.
