1 MESSAGES DISPLAYED
The messages displayed are signals that the Socos sends out to guide the user in programming
certain functions correctly, and that appear in the different keyboard menus.
For some of these messages, the solution to the problem is already contained in their text.
Some of these warnings are listed below: the more general ones first and the others grouped accord-
ing to the programming area concerned.
Meaning An attempt is being made to program a Socos function which requires the access
control key, but this is not inserted.
Remedies Insert the key in the keyboard area and turn it to ON.
MEMORY FULL!
Meaning This directory is full, therefore it is not possible to add new data.
UNACCEPTABLE DATUM
Meaning The input value exceeds the limits allowed by this programming area.

card. This message is displayed for a few seconds when the electric board is switched
off.
Remedies Switch the electric board off and then back on again after a few seconds.
Check that led 7 (Vser) of the MCS card is lit up (Vser fuse burnt-out). Check fuse
F3 on the PSS or PSF module and the three 32 Vac fuses on the T2 transformer.
Check that the figure before the point in the EPROM release number is the same for
all eproms on page 7 of the Information menu. Check that the cables and connec-
tors J5 of card OPT and J16 of card LLB are plugged in correctly, and that the MCU
card is inserted all the way.
External interference may have caused a communication problem between the elec-
tronic components of the MCU card. Try resetting the MCU, EG1 and EG2 cards
(see the chapter on resetting, changing the eprom and changing cards) and repro-
gram the Socos.
Replace the MCU, MCS, OPT and EG1 cards and, if necessary, the EG2 card.
Meaning The input value exceeds the limits allowed by this programming area.

tronic components of the EG1 card. Reset the EG1 and MCU cards (see the
chapter on resetting, changing the eprom and changing cards). Replace the EG1 or
MCU card.
Meaning The programmed motor and drive types are not compatible with the mechanical
ratio data.
Remedies Check that the actual loom mechanical ratio corresponds to the parameter settings
and that the motor and drive types are correct for the installed mechanical ratio.
Meaning These messages are only given when there is an error in the data serial transfer from
keyboard to MCU card, since these parameters must fall within a certain value
range when input via keyboard.

SECTION 2
ALARMS DISPLAYED
Socos rel. 5.xx - 7.xx
SOMET 21 01 - 07 - 1999
SOCOS SECT. 2 -1
1 Alarms displayed
The alarms are signals which can be consulted at any time and in any menu by pressing the ALARM
menu key.
They are hints as to the reason for certain machine operations that the Socos gives to the user, and
may be accompanied by the lighting-up of the warning lamps.
In order to avoid reading or translation mistakes, each alarm has been coded in such a way as to
differentiate it unequivocally from a similar one. When contacting Somet's After-sales Service, it is
essential to give the number(s) of the alarm(s) displayed in the menu rather than the relevant mes-
sage. Many alarms state the different conditions which generated them:
- STOP.... if the movement under way has been interrupted due to ...
- NO START.... if the movement under way has not been executed due to ....
Some alarms are also the consequence of others: therefore, from a series of alarms displayed, you
will have to go back to the alarm which generated the others. For example, the most frequent
occurrence is when the power circuits are not enabled and a number of supplies fail, thus generating
different alarms.
Check that contactor K1 is activated before taking any drastic measures on the electric board.
When contacting Somet's After-sales Service it is also important to indicate the status of the signal
leds on some cards and modules which can be detected by means of the Monitor Tester for the
input-output cards. A simple comparison of the loom situation with the "standard" led status men-
tioned in this manual may give useful hints for solving the problem.
Meaning This alarm (displayed as the blue and white lamps come on) indicates that the
Socos has received a message from the Host Computer, which can be displayed in
the Host Computer menu, key B Host message display.
Remedies Display the alarm by entering the above menu; exit with ESC or with key F6 (OK).
Refer also to Sect.2 paragraph 3.2.1.2 of the Socos User Manual.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
from warp stop motion 1 that a warp thread is broken. With the Monitor Tester in IO2,
input green led 25 must be off.
SOMET 23 01 - 07 - 1999
SOCOS SECT. 2 -1
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
from pressure switch 1 that the pressure is too high in the delivery filter area. With
the Monitor Tester in IO2, input green led 17 must be lit up.
NOTE: This alarm is given only if the following conditions prevail:
- the loom has been running for over 100 minutes since switching the electric board on.
- the main motor has been running for at least 10 seconds
- the contact on pressure switch 1 has been open for at least 3 seconds
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
from pressure switch 2 (vacuum switch) that the oil vacuum in the suction filter area
is too high. With the Monitor Tester in IO2, input green led 18 must be lit up. NOTE:
This alarm is given only if the following conditions prevail:
- the loom has been running for over 15 minutes since switching the electric board on
- the main motor has been running for at least 10 seconds
- the contact of pressure switch 2 has been open for at least 3 seconds.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
from pressure switch 3 or pressure switch 4 that the oil pressure is too low. With the
Monitor Tester in IO2, input green leds 19 (for pressure switch 3) and 20 (for pres-
sure switch 4) must be lit up.
These two pressure switches, located below the left -hand control unit, measure the
pressure in the farthest area of the lubrication system. Only one of them need act
for the loom to stop and give the alarm.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
from the electronic dobby card that the oil circulation in the dobby is insufficient.
NOTE: This alarm is given only if the following conditions prevail:
- more than 60 seconds have lapsed since the last loom start
- the loom is running
- the level switch has been signalling an alarm for at least 10 seconds non-stop.
With a Fimtessile dobby, the alarm is given if all the following conditions are present:
- more than 120 seconds have lapsed since the last loom start
- the loom is running
- the level switch has been signalling an alarm for at least 10 seconds non-stop.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
from the end-of-cone device that the weft entering one of the prefeeders has bro-
ken.
Remedies Repair the broken weft and reset the prefeeder. This alarm is usually displayed
together with one of the alarms no.9 to no.16 indicating on which cone the weft has
broken.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
that the reed protection photocell beam has been interrupted. With the Monitor Tester
in IO1, input green led 23 must be lit up.
This message is also displayed in situations not concerning the photocell, such as
a loom stop due to switching-off because the Socos has received an emergency
signal for a short time.
Remedies Check that there is nothing interrupting the light beam; the green led on the right-
hand receiver must be lit up.
Remove the object or dust interrupting the photocell beam.
Check the alignment between transmitter and receiver and the sensitivity adjust-
ment as per Sect. 4 paragraph 26.3 of the Adjustment Manual.
Check whether the photocell is supplied; the left-hand transmitter red led must
always be lit up. Check the photocells wiring.
Check the diagnostic leds of card SPH:
-Red led 1 always lit up = photocell beam free
-Yellow led 2 off = it lights up during the photocell test before loom
start
-Green led 3 always lit up = 24Vdc supply present.
It is possible to test this card manually by pressing the pushbutton on card SPH
below the green led: if the yellow led comes on and the relays trip, the card is
working properly.
Check the setting of card IO1 jumpers concerning the photocell:
- jumper between 1 and 2 = control enabled for the first 8 running picks. Standard
configuration.
- jumper between 2 and 3 = control always enabled, even during findings and slow
speed.
- jumper between 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 = control disabled. It should be a temporary
setting: for safety reasons, the standard setting must be restored as soon as pos-
sible.
If the alarm is due to the emergency signal, check the emergency pushbuttons on
the loom, board and any external devices (Jacquard, winding rollers, etc.)
If the alarm persists:
Replace card IO1.
Replace card SPH.
Replace the photocells one at a time.
Meaning The ASC end-of cone device signals that no weft is entering the prefeeder indi-
cated, which has been temporarily excluded. The blue and white lamps have come
on.
SOMET 25 01 - 07 - 1999
SOCOS SECT. 2 -1
Monitor Tester in IO2, input green leds 1-8 for prefeeders 1-8: the led correspond-
ing to the prefeeder involved must be off.
Remedies Repair the broken weft entering the prefeeder and reset the latter.
If the loom stops but no weft thread is broken, check that the ACL and ASC devices
are programmed correctly in the Socos and that the tension of the weft entering the
prefeeder is high enough, and if necessary refer to the prefeeder manual to increase
the sensitivity of the weft detector before the prefeeder involved.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal from pressure switch 1 that
the pressure in the delivery filter area is too high.
With the Monitor Tester in IO2, input green led 17 must be lit up.
NOTE: This alarm is given only if the following conditions prevail:
- the loom has been running for over 100 minutes since switching the electric board on
- the main motor has been running for at least 10 seconds
- the contact of pressure switch 1 has been open for at least 3 seconds.
Remedies The alarm might be due to excessive oil density: make sure that the characteristics
of the oil match those recommended by Somet; if the oil temperature is low, the
viscosity of the oil increases and might cause pressure switch 1 to trip pointlessly.
Switch the electric board off and on again to "warm up" the oil for another 100
minutes.
Check the delivery filter (code CPNC110) for clogging or dirt. Replace it.
Check the connections of pressure switch 1 (if the two wires leading to the pressure
switch are connected, IO2 input led 17 must light up).
Replace pressure switch 1 with a pressure switch of the same type.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal from pressure switch 2 (vacuum
switch) that the oil vacuum in the suction filter area is too high.
With the Monitor Tester in IO2, input green led 18 must be lit up.
NOTE: This alarm is given only if the following conditions prevail:
- the loom has been running for over 15 minutes since switching the electric board on.
- the main motor has been running for at least 10 seconds
- the contact of pressure switch 2 has been open for at least 3 seconds.
Remedies The alarm might be due to excessive oil density: make sure that the characteristics
of the oil match those recommended by Somet; if the oil temperature is low, the
viscosity of the oil increases and might cause pressure switch 2 to trip pointlessly.
Switch the electric board off and on again to "warm up" the oil for another 15 min-
utes.
Check whether the suction filter (code CPNC100) is mounted correctly and that it
is not clogged or dirty. Replace it.
Check the connections of pressure switch 2 (if the two wires leading to the pressure
switch are connected, IO2 input led 18 must light up).
Replace pressure switch 2 with a pressure switch of the same type.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal from pressure switch 3 or
pressure switch 4 that the oil pressure is too low. With the Monitor Tester in IO2,
input green leds 19 (for pressure switch 3) and 20 (for pressure switch 4) must
be lit up. These two pressure switches, located below the left-hand control unit,
measure the pressure in the farthest area of the lubrication system. Only one of
them need act for the loom to stop and give the alarm.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal from the electronic dobby
card that the oil circulation in the dobby is insufficient.
With a Stäubli dobby, this alarm is displayed if all the following conditions prevail:
- more than 60 seconds have lapsed from the last loom start
- the loom is running
- the level switch has been signalling an alarm for at least 10 seconds non-stop.
With a Fimtessile dobby, this alarm is displayed if all the following conditions
prevail: - more than 120 seconds have lapsed from the last loom start
- the loom is running
- the level switch has been signalling an alarm for at least 10 seconds non-stop.
Remedies Check that the level switch has been installed (jumper between terminals H and
H for Stäubli; jumper between terminals 31 and 34 for FIM if no level switch has
been installed).
If the level switch has been installed, check the continuity between terminals H
and H for the Stäubli or 31 and 34 for the FIM dobby, with the loom in operation.
Check that the level switch is not faulty by placing a jumper between the termi-
nals above. Replace the level switch.
Check that the dobby filter is not clogged and that its cover is well closed.
Check that oil type and viscosity comply with the recommendations of the dobby
manufacturer.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal from the 6Ω proximity that,
with the loom stopped, the 6Ω coil disk of the slow speed unit has not returned to
its rest position. With the Monitor tester in IO2, input green led 29 must be lit up
with the loom at a standstill.
SOMET 27 01 - 07 - 1999
SOCOS SECT. 2 -1
Remedies Check whether the led on the 6Ω proximity is lit up. Check whether the slow speed
disk (6Ω side) has returned to its rest position.
Check the proximity setting: see sect. 4 chap. 36 of the Adjustment Manual. Re-
place the slow speed proximity (6Ω).
If the IO2 input led 29 is lit up and the alarm persists, replace card IO2.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the signal from the 6Ω
proximity is not correct.
Remedies With the Monitor Tester in IO2, check that input green led 29 and the 6Ω proxim-
ity led are lit up and that they go off during each slow movement.
Check that the 6Ω disk is mechanically displaced when a slow movement is
requested:
- if it does not move, check the control circuit of the 6Ω coil. With the Monitor
Tester in IO3, output red led 5 and leds 12 and 8 of the PCD module (6Ω holding)
must light up during slow movements; the IO3 red output led 6 and leds 13 and 7
of the PCD module (6Ω overimpulse) must come on briefly at the beginning of
the slow movement; the contacts corresponding to terminals 5-6-7-8 of contac-
tor K6 must be closed, and at the time of the control (PCD led 8 lit up) there must
be 24Vdc between K6 terminal 8 and the earth. The same voltage must be present
at the 6Ω coil connector. Check that the 6Ω coil is not disconnected.
- if the 6Ω disk moves but the proximity led does not go off, check the proximity
setting (see sect. 4 chap. 36 of the Adjustment Manual) and replace the 6Ω coil
proximity.
If the IO2 led 29 comes on and goes off but the alarm persists, replace card IO2.
Meaning The loom does not start because the movement has been inhibited by the Host
Computer.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because it has been inhibited
by the Host Computer.
Remedies Check programming from Host Computer.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the safety photocells
do not allow it.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because pressure switch 1
signals that the pressure in the delivery filter area is too high.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because pressure switch 2
(vacuum switch) signals that the vacuum value in the suction filter area is too
high.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because pressure switch 3 or 4
signals that the pressure in the left-hand control unit is too low.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the electronic dobby
card signals that the oil circulation in the dobby is insufficient.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
from the slow movements proximity that the position is wrong. IO2 input green
led 29 goes off when the loom is in operation.
SOMET 29 01 - 07 - 1999
SOCOS SECT. 2 -1
Remedies With the Monitor Tester in IO2, check that input green led 29 and the 6Ω proximity
led do not go off during loom operation.
Check the proximity adjustment: see sect. 4 chap. 36 of the Adjustment Manual.
Replace the 6Ω coil proximity.
If IO2 input led 29 stays lit up and the alarm persists, replace card IO2.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because warp stop motion 1
sent a signal that a warp thread is broken.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
from warp stop motion 2 that a warp thread is broken.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because warp stop motion 2
sent the signal that a warp thread is broken.
Meaning The loom does not start up because the two start pushbuttons have been pressed
too briefly.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the main motor is off.
Remedies Start the main motor by turning switch SA1 to 1 and pressing the white pushbutton
SB5 next to the Socos keyboard. With the Monitor Tester in IO1, input green led
18 must be off when the motor is running.
If the brake-clutch unit air gap is to be checked instead, it is necessary to wait
until the safety interval (5 minutes) before the main clutch control is enabled has
lapsed. See also the chapter on troubleshooting.
If the alarm persists, replace card IO1.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
that the main motor is off.
With the Monitor Tester in IO1, input green led 18 must be off when the main
motor is running.
Remedies Restart the main motor by turning switch SA1 to 1 and pressing the white
pushbutton SB5 next to the Socos keyboard.
Check that the contact between terminals 43 and 44 of thermal relay QM1 is
closed when QM1 is activated.
See also the chapter on troubleshooting. If the alarm persists, replace card IO1.
45 WARP 2 BROKEN
Meaning This warns that the Socos has received a signal from warp stop motion 2 indi-
cating that a warp thread is broken. With the Monitor Tester in IO2, input green
led 26 must be off.
Remedies If the IO2 green led 26 stays on, find the detector which has dropped and repair
the warp thread; check for broken, bent or misaligned detectors; check for metal
foreign matter on the rows; unplug the connector of the corresponding warp stop
motion to test its operation; using a multimeter, check that it is only the outside
of the row which is connected to the loom earth (the signal must always remain
on the inner part of the row) and that, when the rows are away from the grippers
of the warp stop motion, the two parts of each row are isolated from each other.
Clean the rows with solvent.
If the IO2 green led 26 lights up only occasionally: check for slack warp threads
or oscillating-detectors; one can also reduce the sensitivity of the warp stop
motion involved by changing the input into the Socos; see section 2 paragraph
7.2.6 of the Socos User Manual.
Replace the IO2 card. Reset the MCU card.
Meaning The requested movement is not being executed because the Socos has received
the signal that the Stop pushbutton has been pressed. With the Monitor Tester in
IO1, input green led 4 must be lit up.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the Socos has not
received from the encoder the signal that the loom was in operation during an
automatic slow movement.
Remedies Check that the loom degrees displayed match the graduated disk position by
turning the loom in slow speed mode or using the crank.
Replace the encoder; replace the MCS and MCU cards.
SOMET 31 01 - 07 - 1999
SOCOS SECT. 2 -1
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the "automatic pick
finding disabled" parameter has been programmed in the Socos and the loom is
not in the correct position; when pressing a manual pick finding pushbutton, the
loom cannot turn to 310° automatically and therefore cannot execute pick finding.
Remedies Enable automatic pick finding by pressing B = initialization in the machine pa-
rameters menu.
Meaning The main motor does not start because other movements have been requested
at the same time.
52 SW1 ERROR
Remedies External interference may have caused a communication problem between the
electronic components of the MCU card . Try resetting the MCU, EG1 and EG2,
keyboard cards.
If the MCU card is faulty, replace it and reprogram the Socos (see the chapter on
resetting, changing the eprom and changing cards).
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has given the braking command but the encoder is
still turning 7 seconds later. If the encoder is still turning 7 seconds after the
stop , the Socos gives the alarm and opens the K7 contacts - which open the
main clutch circuit - by means of the 1K5 relay. The detection of the encoder's
movement switches the power off.
Remedies Check whether other braking circuit alarms are displayed and see the relevant
remedies.
Check the main brake-clutch air gap.
Meaning The MCU card (slave section) does not execute the loom stop requested.
Remedies Reset the MCU and EG1 cards and reprogram the Socos. Replace the MCU card
(see the chapter on resetting, changing the eprom and changing cards).
Meaning The loom has stopped because a stop pushbutton has been pressed.
Remedies Release all stop pushbuttons on the loom and start it up. With the Monitor Tester
in IO1, input green led 4 must be lit up. Check the continuity of the stop
pushbuttons contacts and clean them with compressed air if necessary.
If the IO1 input led 4 is lit up and the alarm persists, replace the IO1 card.
56 WARP 1 BROKEN
Meaning This warns that the Socos has received a signal from warp stop motion 1 indi-
cating that a warp thread is broken. Monitor Tester in IO2, input green led 25
must be off.
Remedies If the IO2 green led 25 stays on, find the detector which has dropped and repair
the warp thread; check for broken, bent or misaligned detectors; check for metal
foreign matter on the rows; unplug the connector of the corresponding warp stop
motion to test its operation; using a multimeter, check that it is only the outside
of the row which is connected to the loom earth (the signal must always remain
on the inner part of the row) and that, when the rows are away from the grippers
of the warp stop motion, the two parts of each row are isolated from each other.
Clean the rows with solvent.
If the IO2 green led 25 lights up only occasionally: check for slack warp threads
oscillating detectors; one can also reduce the sensitivity of the warp stop motion
involved by changing the input into the Socos; see section 2 paragraph 7.2.6 of the
Socos User Manual.
Replace the IO2 card. Reset the MCU and EG1 cards (see the chapter on reset-
ting, changing the eprom and changing cards).
57 SW2 ERROR
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the master encoder,
loom and shedding machine are not synchronized.
Remedies After resetting the MCU card, the loom must be turned at slow speed or by hand,
so that the encoder gets synchronized by passing through 0°.
After a loom stop due to the “141 pick finding ended incorrectly” alarm, press the
reverse pick finding pushbutton: the loom will execute one reverse and one for-
ward pick finding turn to check the synchronization with the shedding machine.
Check the encoder connector electrical connection.
Check that the play of the encoder mechanical support is not excessive.

one of the emergency devices or a Socos command. In the first instance, check
the emergency devices for proper operation, while in the latter instance there are
other alarms concerning the power turning-off by the Socos.
Remedies Check the leds on the drive of the EWC involved, consulting the chapter on the
Somet AZI 8/16 drive.
Check the 24V fuse on the T2 transformer secondary.
Check led 8 (Vaux) of card MCS.
Release the emergency pushbutton.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal of warp overtension from
the let-off indicated.
Remedies Check the data input in the menu corresponding to the let-off involved, and in
particular the actual and requested values and the maximum %. For this alarm
to be displayed, the actual value must exceed the requested one by the maxi-
mum % set. Loosen the warp by hand with key F1 "Let-off". Modify the incorrect
values.
Check that the tare value has been set correctly.
If the actual value does not match the warp tension, or if, when loading the load
cell the actual value does not change, replace card EG1 for EWC1 and EWC2 or
card EG2 for EWC3 and EWC4.
Replace the load cell of the let-off involved.
Check led 8 of card MCS.
Remedies Check the data input in the menu corresponding to the let-off involved, and in par-
ticular the actual and requested values and the minimum %. For this alarm to be
SOMET 35 01 - 07 - 1999

sent the signal that a warp thread is broken.
86 WARP 3 BROKEN
Meaning This warns that the Socos has received a signal from warp stop motion 3 that a
warp thread is broken. Monitor Tester in IO2, input green led 27 must be off.
Remedies If the IO2 green led 27 stays on, find the detector which has dropped and repair the
warp thread; check for broken, bent or misaligned detectors; check for metal foreign
matter on the rows; unplug the connector of the corresponding warp stop motion to
test its operation; using a multimeter, check that it is only the outside of the row
which is connected to the loom earth (the signal must always remain on the inner
part of the row) and that, when the rows are away from the grippers of the warp stop
motion, the two parts of each row are isolated from each other. Clean the rows with
solvent.
If the IO2 green led 27 lights up only occasionally: check for slack warp threads or
oscillating detectors; one can also reduce the sensitivity of the warp stop motion
involved by changing the input into the Socos; see section 2. paragraph 7.2.6 of the
Socos User Manual. Replace the IO2 card. Reset the MCU card (see the chapter
on resetting, changing the eprom and changing cards).
87 WARP 4 BROKEN
Meaning This warns that the Socos has received a signal from warp stop motion 4 that a
warp thread is broken. Monitor Tester in IO2, input green led 28 must be off.

ceived the general inhibition signal from the electronic Jacquard. With the Moni-
tor Tester in IO3, input green led 11 must be lit up.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the general inhibition signal from the
electronic Jacquard. With the Monitor Tester in IO3, input green led 11 must be lit
up.
Remedies Switch the board off, wait a few minutes and switch it back on again.
Plug in the connector with the jumpers supplied with all EJ looms. If, in this way,
the IO3 led 11 lights up, refer to the technical manual or contact the jacquard
After-sales Service.
If the led does not light up even with the connector plugged in, check the wiring
of card IO3 connector J4. Replace card IO3.
SOMET 37 01 - 07 - 1999
SOCOS SECT. 2 -1
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has not received the EDT
movement signal (Code A1EZ67A - A1EZ68A) from one of the twoo proximities.
With the Monitor Tester in IO2, input green leds 31 (upper) and 32 (lower) light up at
the passage of the metal sector.
Remedies If the ETD motor turns when the loom is in operation or when moving the ETD by
hand, when the fabric is loosened via the special pushbutton on the loom, check
whether the leds on the two proximity sensors and therefore also IO2 input leds
31 and 32 come on at the passage of the metal sector.
Check the correspondence between proximity position and input led.
Check that the sensitive part of the two proximity sensors is 0.4 mm from the
metal sector, and that this distance applies for all metal sectors.
Check the correction constant value in the machine parameters menu (the stand-
ard value is 7005) and modify it if necessary.
Check the electrical connection of the two ETD proximity connectors.
Replace the two ETD proximity sensors.
Replace card EG1 and re-enter the EWC, ETD and correction constant values.
If the ETD motor turns but the proximity metal sector does not move, check the
mechanical part of the take-up roller reduction gear unit.
Replace card IO2.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
that the thermal cutter temperature selector is turned to 0. With the Monitor
Tester in IO3, input green led 10 must be lit up.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the thermal cutter
temperature selector is turned to 0. With the Monitor Tester in IO3, input green
led 10 must be lit up.
Remedies Turn the thermal cutter temperature selector to a position other than 0. If the
selector is already in a position other than 0, check that contact 19-20 of the
selector is closed and that connector J36 is correctly plugged in the relevant
connector of card LLB.
Replace card IO3.
If the thermal cutter is to be excluded in order to use the mechanical cutter,
follow the steps as in sect. 4 chap. 38 of the Adjustment Manual.
If the loom is not provided with thermal cutter, check for the presence of connec-
tor J36 of LLB with a jumper between pins 4 and 5.
Replace card IO3.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
that a thermal relay has tripped. With the Monitor Tester in IO1, input green led
30 must be lit up.
Remedies See alarm no. 96.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the Socos has received
the signal that a thermal relay has tripped. With the Monitor Tester in IO1, input
green led 30 must be lit up.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal that a thermal relay has
tripped. With the Monitor Tester in IO1, input green led 30 must be lit up.
Remedies If other thermal alarms are displayed at the same time, check these.
The thermal feelers affected by this alarm are the ones inside the main motor
and the slow speed motor. Check whether one of them is overheated: if so,
discover the cause (cooling fan broken, motor clogged with dust, etc.).
Check that the motor is not overloaded due to mechanical problems. Check that
the motors are supplied by the three-phase line and that they are properly con-
nected. If neither of the motors is overheated, check the continuity of the thermal
pad inside the motors.
Check the connectors and cables J6 and J7 of switching card JPA.
Replace card IO1.
Meaning This indicates that the signal received by the Socos from the jacquard brake
control circuit does not match the Socos command.
With the Monitor Tester in IO3, input green led 9 must come on when the Socos
gives the command to the jacquard brake (IO3 output led 20 lit up) and go off
when the command fails (emergency).
Remedies Switch the electric board off and on; when turning the loom at slow speed, the
jacquard brake central disk must move upwards until it is in contact with the coil
unit.
When the slow speed command is given, the IO3 output red led 20, the PCD
module leds 16 and 11 and the IO3 input green led 9 must light up; all these leds
must go off when an emergency pushbutton is pressed.
Replace the PCD module. Replace card IO3.
Check there is an air gap of 0.7 mm between the central disk and the coil unit
plane with the electric board off (see also paragraph "maintenance of the emer-
gency brake" in the Adjustment manual). With the electric board off and the coil
connector unplugged, check that the coil resistance is approx. 8÷10Ω and that the
coil is isolated from the loom earth.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal that the pressure switch 3
or 4 contact has not opened after TIMER-OFF with the main motor off. With the
Monitor Tester in IO2, input green leds 19 for pressure switch 3 and 20 for pres-
sure switch 4 must be off with the motor off and TIMER-OFF.
Remedies Find out which one of the two pressure switches is malfunctioning (led lit up) and
replace it at once.
Replace card IO2.

SOCOS SECT. 2 -1
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
of a failure on the ETD drive.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the Socos has re-
ceived the ETD drive failure signal.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the electronic dobby
is not synchronized with the loom.
Remedies Press the reverse finding pushbutton: the loom will execute one reverse and one
forward finding turn to synchronize the electronic dobby with the loom.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal indicating that there are
communication problems between cards MCU and EG1 concerning the ETD.
The Socos has switched the power off because the electrical axis system con-
trol is not assured.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal of communication prob-
lems between cards MCU and EG1 concerning one EWC.
Remedies Check that cards MCU, EG1, EG2 are firmly inserted in their rack.
Check that the figure before the point is the same for all eproms on page 8 of the
Information menu.
External interference may have altered the standard operation of the EG1 or EG2
card program. Reset cards MCU, EG1 or EG2. Replace card EG1 or EG2 (see the
chapter on resetting, changing the eprom and changing cards).
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal of a failure signal on the
ETD drive. This alarm is also displayed when the power is turned off through one
of the emergency devices or a Socos command. In the first instance, check that
the emergency devices are working properly, while in the latter instance there
are other alarms concerning the switching-off by the Socos.
Remedies Check the leds on the ETD drive, consulting the chapter on the Somet AZI 8/16
drive. Check the 24V fuse of transformer T2.
Release the emergency pushbutton.
Meaning The required weft density is incompatible with the mechanical ratio installed on
the electronic take-up roller reduction gear.
Remedies Check that the correct weft density source has been selected on page 1 of the
ETD programming menu, and that the actual required picks/cm fall within the
minimum and maximum weaving densities.
Check that the mechanical ratio set in the ETD technical parameters
(password=11EXCEL) tallies with the one actually installed on the ETD reduc-
tion gear. To do so, check the stamping on the cover of the take-up roller reduc-
tion gear:
* Value which may vary depending on the loom speed, the presence of
the cramming motion and the type of motor installed.
If the required weft density does not fall within the weft range corresponding to
the stamping on the take-up roller reduction gear cover, modify the reduction
gear so that the mechanical ratio suitable to the required weft density can be
mounted.
Check that the correction constant is approx. 6900-7100. Input the correction
constant again.
Meaning The fabric production programmed by the Socos has been completed and the
white lamp has lit up.
SOMET 41 01 - 07 - 1999
SOCOS SECT. 2 -1
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the programmed
production has been completed.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
that the programmed production has been completed.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because it is prevented by the
textile protection programmed in the Machine Parameters Initialization menu.
Remedies Carry out the movements required for a correct loom start.
Disable the textile protections.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal from the MCU card that the
battery charging voltage is too high. The second led from the top of the MCS
card must be lit up.
Remedies The GB1 buffer battery is located behind the card rack and can be accessed by
removing the small door fastened to the rear top part of the electric board by
means of four screws.
Switch the electric board on and check that there are 14.3 Vdc at the GB1 buffer
battery poles. If this is not the case, disconnect wire BAT+ from the positive
pole of the GB1 battery. Turn the Vbat trimmer on the MCS card clockwise to
increase and counter-clockwise to decrease the charging voltage until there are
14.3Vdc between the battery negative pole and the BAT+ wire. Connect the
BAT+ wire back to the battery positive pole. If the voltage is correct, turn the Vref
trimmer counter-clockwise until the second led of the MCS card goes off; adjust
the trimmer counter-clockwise by another half turn.
NOTE: Never switch the electric board off with the BAT+ wire disconnected,
to avoid having to reset the MCU card and reprogram the Socos.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal from the MCU card that the
battery voltage is too low. The third led from the top of the MCS card must be lit up.
Remedies The GB1 buffer battery is located behind the card rack and can be accessed by
removing the small door fastened to the rear top part of the electric board by means
of four screws.
If the voltage is correct, turn the
Vref trimmer clockwise until the third led of the MCS card goes off; turn the
trimmer clockwise 6 more times.
NOTE: Never switch the electric board off with the BAT+ wire disconnected,
to avoid having to reset the MCU card and reprogram the Socos.
Meaning The electric board has switched off because the PSS (Stäubli) or PSF (Fimtessile)
module has detected a line voltage higher or lower than the rated value by more
than ±10%. With the Monitor Tester in IO2, input green led 21 must be lit up.
Remedies Check that led 6 on the PSS or PSF module stays on.
By means of the multimeter, measure the voltage on the primary winding of the
T1 transformer located in the recess of the electric board rear panel; the voltage
read must match the rated line voltage ±10% (for example, in the case of 380V it
must fall between 342V and 418V).
By means of the multimeter, measure the voltage on the T1 transformer second-
ary marked 0-24/8; the voltage must fall between 22.5V and 27.5V (25V ±10%).
Check the F3 fuse on the PSS or PSF module.
Check the following connectors for proper wiring and plugging-in: J2 on PSS or
PSF, J8 on PSS or J9 on PSF, J41 on LLB.
If this alarm is displayed frequently and the line voltage is correct, replace the
PSS (Stäubli) or PSF (Fimtessile) module.
Replace card IO2.
If the Somet board is supplied with a line voltage higher or lower than the rated
value by more than 10%, this might damage the internal electronic circuits.
By way of exception, and only temporarily and subject to Somet's approval, it is
possible to raise the control limits by varying the position of the jumpers on the
PSS module front as follows:
J5 jumper = with jumper +10% without jumper +15%
J6 jumper = with jumper -15% without jumper -10%
and on the PSF module front as follows:
J6 jumper = with jumper +10% without jumper +15%
J7 jumper = with jumper -15% without jumper -10%
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
that the production programmed on the electronic jacquard has been completed.

from the electronic Jacquard not to allow forward movement of the jacquard.
With the Monitor Tester in IO3, input green led 13 must be lit up.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
for a line voltage drop.
Remedies If this alarm is caused by the switching-off of the electric board, check with a
multimeter that the line voltage supply is correct and check the door microswitches.
Check that led 4 of the MCS card is lit up.
Replace the MCS card.
NOTE: when this type of stop occurs, the loom does not execute the pro-
grammed automatic finding cycles; when the electric board is switched on,
other alarms concerning loom-dobby synchronization will be displayed.
Meaning The finding cycle has been interrupted because it has lasted longer than 10
seconds or because the encoder has turned more than 380° during one finding
pick and the 33Ω disk has not re-engaged yet.
Remedies Check that the pick finding disk re-engages at the end of the programmed finding
cycle.
If the disk does not re-engage, check the control circuit of the pick finding coil:
see chapter "Pick finding is not working properly" in the "Troubleshooting" sec-
tion. Check the mechanical part of the slow speed unit.
Check the encoder for proper operation.
Replace the encoder.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
that the safety brake is activated or the slow speed manual lock is in wrong
position. With the Monitor Tester in IO3, input green led 15 for jacquard looms
must be lit up during every movement.
Remedies For looms equipped with safety brake, switch the electric board off and then
back on again; when turning the loom at slow speed, the jacquard brake central
disk must move upwards until its in contact with the coil unit.
When the slow speed command is given, the IO3 output red led 20, the PCD
module leds 16 and 11 and the IO3 input green led 9 must light up.
Replace the PCD module and card IO3.
For looms with manual engagement of the slow speed unit: release the slow
speed lock.
Check the safety microswitch of the slow speed mechanical lock.
Replace card IO3.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the auxiliary functions
of the electronic dobby are still enabled.
Remedies Exit the electronic dobby auxiliary functions by pressing key J (end of auxiliary
functions) in the Dobby auxiliary functions menu.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the Socos has re-
ceived the signal that the production programmed on the electronic jacquard has
been completed. With the Monitor Tester in IO3, input green led 14 is lit up and
goes off when the EJ gives the end-of-production signal.
SOMET 45 01 - 07 - 1999
SOCOS SECT. 2 -1
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal that the drive of the EWC
indicated has been actuated to limit the peak current supply to the motor. This
alarm also causes a number of warning lamps to light up; the loom does not stop
because there are no problems as long as the EWC motor, even if current limita-
tion has been activated, is still synchronized with the loom. If the current limita-
tion becomes considerable, problems with synchronization might arise.
Remedies Check the yellow I2T led on the drive corresponding to the EWC indicated,
consulting the chapter on the Somet AZI 8/16 drive. Check the transmission
ratio against the tables contained in the Adjustment manual.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
indicating a failure in the section controlling the pick finding coil on the PCD
module. The Socos has switched the power off, giving also alarm no. 137.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the Socos has disa-
bled the power section of the electric board. This alarm is displayed together
with another one indicating the reason for switching off.
Remedies See the alarms concerning the reasons for switching off.
Meaning The Socos has disabled the power section because the section controlling the
pick finding coil on the PCD module is faulty.
Remedies With the Monitor Tester in IO3, output led 9 and red led 7, led 23 and led 24 of the
PCD module, led 21 and led 22 of the PCD module must be off.
Replace the PCD module.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has not received the
encoder signal correctly.
Remedies If the loom has started up briefly and then stopped displaying this alarm:
check that when turning the loom at slow speed, the loom degrees displayed match
the loom position.
Check that the encoder connector is plugged in correctly and that the driving belt is
not too slack.
Check that led 5 (Venc) and led 8 (Vaux) are lit up.
Replace the MCS, MCU cards.
Replace the encoder.
If the loom does not start up displaying this alarm:
Check that the main motor is turning and the V-belt is not broken.
Check that the main clutch is controlled.
With the Monitor Tester in IO3, output red led 1, led 14 and led 10 of the PCD
module must light up when the loom start request is given.
With the Monitor Tester in IO3, output red led 2, led 15 and led 9 of the PCD
module must light up briefly when the loom start request is given.
Check that the first 6 leds from the top on the PCD module, as well as leds 18,
19 and 20, are lit up. Check the secondary 23 Vac fuse.
Replace the PCD module.
Replace card IO3.
Replace the MCU card, reset it and reprogram the Socos (see the chapter on
resetting, changing the eprom and changing cards).
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the main clutch has
already been activated for the air gap control.
Remedies Press and release the stop pushbutton to disable the main clutch.
With the Monitor Tester in IO3, input green led 2 lit up means that the main clutch
control is active.
Replace card IO3.
Meaning Activation of the main clutch for the main brake-clutch air gap control is disabled
because the 5 minutes safety interval has not lapsed yet.
Remedies Wait until the 5 minutes interval has lapsed: alarm no. 173 "ok for manual main
clutch enabling" will be displayed.
Meaning The pick finding cycle has been interrupted or has not been concluded correctly.
The Socos has detected a displacement of ± 4° with respect to the beginning of
pick finding.
Remedies Pick finding may have been interrupted because the board has been switched off
or, with the photocells enabled, because their beam has been interrupted during
pick finding.
Press the slow speed pushbutton to synchronize the pick finding disk, then
carry out pick finding.
In order to restart the loom, a correct finding pick must be executed.
Check fuse F3 of the PCD module.
With the photocells enabled, avoid operating in the reed area during pick finding.

Check whether the contact between terminals 61 and 62 opens when contactor
K6 is actuated.
Replace card IO1. Replace contactor K6.
Meaning This indicates that after actuating the relay system for loom operation, the Socos
does not receive the feedback signal that contactor K7 has been actuated.
Remedies When start is requested, led 7 lights up, then IO1 output led 8, contactor K7 is
actuated and IO1 input led 27 goes off. Check whether the contact between
terminals 61 and 62 opens when contactor K7 is actuated.

Check whether the emergency pushbuttons on the loom and on the electric
board have been pressed and their contacts are closed.
Check the emergency pushbutton on the electronic jacquard and if necessary
plug in the CN5 connector with the jumpers to check whether the problem is due
to the jacquard controller.
Check whether any other devices than the Somet electric board have been
connected to the emergency circuit.
Check the fuse on terminal 24 of transformer T2 and that there is a voltage
24Vac on the secondary.
SOMET 69 01 - 07 - 1999
SOCOS SECT. 2 -1
Meaning The RAM data stored in memory when the electric board was switched off do not
tally with the RAM data after switching on again the electric board .
Remedies The Socos requires that the MCU card is reset to be able to start up again the
loom. By resetting the MCU card all the data stored in its memory go lost. It is a
good rule, before resetting the MCU card, to record all data involved in program-
ming the Socos and the statistical data which the customer requires to calculate
the production. The Memory Card can be used to record the data input into the
Socos and rewrite them after the reset (see the chapter on resetting, changing
the eprom and changing cards).
The alarm might be due to the Socos' inability to calculate the checksum on
switching off the machine because it was incorrectly supplied (see alarm no.
202) or because the microprocessor was reset during its operation without being
able to handle the part of the program concerning switching off of the electric
board; or else due to some alteration in the RAM data on switching on again the
electric board before the Socos recalculates the checksum and compares it
against the value stored on switching off the electric board.
Both the reset of the microprocessor and the alteration of data on switching on
again the electric board are caused by electrical, electrostatic and electromag-
netic interference which affects the operation of the microprocessor. It is essen-
tial that the earthing system both of the loom and of the devices applied to it has
been set up correctly. Check whether there are any loom parts which, if any
static electricity develops, might trigger off electrostatic charges; in particular,
check the earthing of the back roller, load cell, warp stop motion, brakes and
prefeeder drum and all parts which are in contact with the weft and the warp.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the circuit of the warning
lamps has failed.
Remedies Check whether both danger warning lamps flash on pressing the slow speed
pushbuttons. Replace any faulty lamps.
Check whether IO1 input led 11 is off and IO1 input led 31 and led 32 flash during
execution of movements.
Check whether the connectors to the warning lamps, J4 and J9 of switching card
JPA, J29 on LLB are well plugged in and have no loose wires.
Replace card IO1.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos has received the signal
that relay 1K3 did not trip during the execution of the movements.
Remedies Check whether IO1 input led 20 is off during the execution of the movements.
Replace card IO1.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the Socos, after acti-
vating the relay system, has not received the feedback signal of relay 1K3.
Remedies By pressing the slow speed pushbutton, the Socos activates the relay system: IO1
output led 7, IO1 input led 19 light up and IO1 input led 20 goes off.
Replace card IO1.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos, after issuing the command for the forward or
reverse motion of the slow speed motor, does not receive the feedback signal of
contactors K4 and K5.
Remedies Check whether IO1 output led 2 lights up when contactor K4 (forward) is actu-
ated and IO1 output led 3 lights up when contactor K5 (reverse) is actuated.
When both contactors are actuated, IO1 input led 25 must go off. Replace card
IO1. Replace the faulty contactor.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the Socos, after issuing the com-
mand for the forward or reverse motion of the slow speed motor, does not re-
ceive the feedback signal of contactors K4 and K5.
Meaning The requested movement has not been executed because the Socos has re-
ceived the signal of a failure on the main brake control circuit on the PCD module.
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has received the signal of a failure on the supply
module for Stäubli (PSS) or Fimtessile (PSF) dobby.
Remedies Check that all leds are lit up on the PSS or PSF module.
Meaning Card EG1 or EG2 for EWC3 and EWC4 is not able to retain the synchronism
between the position of the EWC indicated and the position of the ETD.
Remedies With the electrical axis, the movement of the EWC motor is synchronized with
the movement of the ETD motor through the reading of the two encoders. The
Socos gives this alarm if it finds a phase difference of three turns between the
two encoders, with reference to the synchronism situation.
Check the connections of the encoders of the ETD and EWC indicated. Check
that connectors J15 of card ULB, J1 JEG, J2 JEG for EWC1, J4 JEG for EWC2,
J6 JEG for ETD, are properly connected and that there are no loose wires.
Check armature and encoder connectors on the motor of the ETD and of the
EWC indicated.

Check that the yellow led I²T on the drive of the EWC indicated does not light up.
Replace the motor of the ETD and of the EWC indicated.
Replace the drive of the EWC indicated.
Execute resetting of cards MCU and EG1, or EG2 if EWC3 and EWC4 are fitted,
inputting again the data of the ETD, of the EWCs and the correction constant.
Replace card EG1 or EG2.
Check led 9 (Vaux) of card MCS.
Meaning Card EG1 is not able to retain the synchronism between the position of the ETD and
the position of the loom (master) encoder.
Remedies With the electrical axis, the movement of the ETD motor is synchronized with the
movement of the loom through the reading of the two encoders. The Socos gives
this alarm if it finds a phase difference of three turns between the two encoders,
with reference to the synchronism situation.
Check the connections of the ETD and master encoders. Check that connectors
J15 of card ULB, J1 JEG, J6 JEG for ETD, the loom encoder connector and J4 ULB
are properly connected and that there are no loose wires.
Check armature and encoder connectors on the ETD motor.
Check that the yellow led I²T on the AZ5 drive does not light up.
Replace the master encoder. Replace the ETD motor.
Replace the AZ5 drive.
Execute resetting of cards EG1 and MCU (see the chapter on resetting, changing
the eprom and changing cards).
Replace card EG1.
Check led 9 (Vaux) of card MCS.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because the EG1 card is unable to retain the
synchronism between the position of the ETD and the position of the loom encoder
(master).
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because card EG1 or EG2 for EWC3 and
EWC4 is not able to retain the synchronism between the position of the EWC indi-
cated and the position of the ETD.

system, has not received the feedback signal that the relay system has been acti-
vated.
Meaning The Socos has disabled the power section of the electric board because the encod-
ers of the let-off indicated and of the ETD are not synchronized.
Meaning The Socos has disabled the power section of the electric board because the master
and ETD encoders are not synchronized.
Meaning The Socos has disabled the power section of the electric board because communi-
cation between the MCU and the EG1 or EG2 card is not correct.
Remedies Execute resetting of the MCU and EG1 or EG2 cards, replace card EG1 or EG2,
reprogram the Socos (see the chapter on resetting, changing the eprom and chang-
ing cards).
Meaning This indicates that the Socos has disabled the power section of the electric board
because the tension of the warp of the EWC indicated is more than twice as high as
the overtension percent input (this alarm is actuated if a maximum value of 70%
was set and the actual value exceeds the requested value by 140%).
Remedies Switch off and on again the electric board; unwind by hand to loosen the warp; by
means of the knob, release the beam from the reduction gear of the let-off indicated.
The alarm is due to the fact that, although the electrical axis has disabled the EWC
drive due to overtension, the EWC motor has continued to draw on the warp.
This alarm prevents a drive failure to damage seriously the warp.
Replace the drive which corresponds to the EWC indicated.
Check led 8 of card MCS.
Meaning The movement has been interrupted because one of the emergency devices has
been actuated.

MCU, EG1 and EG2 cards have components whose function is to keep in memory the data input
into the loom as well as those data captured during its operation, even while the electric board is
off. Whenever the EPROM is replaced, a reset is carried out and the cards mentioned are
changed, all these data go lost. It is therefore good practice to record them, so as to be able to
input them again correctly as required.
There are two ways to record them.
- Automatically: simple and practical. All settings input into the Socos are stored on the Memory
Card and then written again into the loom after a reset or card change.
- Manually: longer and less practical. All data are written down on paper and then input again one
by one after a reset or card change.
Automatic system: using the same Memory Card as when transferring the patterns, dobby
patterns, etc., enter the Memory Card Programming menu. Press key C to write data from the
loom to the Memory Card and then key E to transfer the configuration to the Memory Card. After
giving a name to the configuration to distinguish it from others, the Socos begins to write all
machine control data to the Memory Card. It may happen that messages are displayed during the
transfer that refer to devices that are enabled on the Socos, but not connected to the loom; if so,
press ESC to continue.
With releases prior to 3.xx it was not possible to store the statistical data in the memory: these
had to be acquired separately with the Memory Card and then displayed with EASY SOCOS. As
from release 3.xx, all statistical data are stored on the Memory Card together with the configura-
tion and then input on the loom.
After changing the EPROM, resetting or changing the card, the data on the Memory Card must
be copied to the loom. Resetting must be executed each time the EPROM is changed and each
time the MCU, EG1 or EG2 card is changed. In order to effect the reset, remove the jumper next
to the buffer battery mounted on each of these cards for at least 60 seconds, and then put it back
again. Go back into the Memory Card Programming menu, press the Memory Card Read key B,
press Loom Configuration key E and select the configuration stored earlier. The Socos automati-
cally writes the data from the Memory Card to the different menus.
Manual system: the Socos input data must be written down on paper.
- Information: pattern pick and dobby pattern pick. If the colour pattern and dobby pattern are
situated again at the pick preceding the reset, one can start up again exactly from where one
had stopped.
- Shifts menu: these data can only be input on the loom via Memory Card.
They should be transcribed in case they are needed for a correct statistical report of the
production. Record only the data useful for this purpose.
- Production programming: note the type of production, the required output, the quantity already
produced and whether the loom is to stop on completing weaving.
SOMET 97 01 - 07 - 1999
SOCOS SECT. 4 - 1
- Machine parameters: the values on the 3 pages of the Adjustment menu.
The values of the 4 pages of the Initialization menu.
The input values of the weft detector.
The Pattern tolerance, Beam change, Programmed maintenance, EFTU and Inverter values if
programmed.
- Name of the current colour pattern. If also the OPT keyboard card is to be reset, copy the
current colour pattern program as well.
- Name of the current dobby pattern. If also the OPT keyboard card is to be reset, copy the
current dobby pattern program as well.
After replacing the EPROM, resetting or changing the card, copy the data to the loom inputting
them in the appropriate menus.
Resetting must be done each time the EPROM is replaced and each time an MCU, EG1 or
EG2 card is changed.
In order to effect the reset, remove the jumper next to the buffer battery mounted on each of
these cards for at least 60 sec, and then put it back.

1.1 TROUBLESHOOTING
If any of the 4 red leds goes on or any of the green leds goes off, it means that there is a fault
which prevents proper operation of the device. For each type of signal, we are listing below a
number of possible causes.
If the yellow led l²T goes on, it means that the peak current limiter has tripped: in order to
protect the drive's final stages against overtemperatures, if the overload request lasts more than
two seconds, the current is automatically reduced to a value just below the rated value. Reset-
ting is timed and automatic. The signal means that the drive is still in operation but the operator is
warned that the speed control might fail in part. When this led goes on, also a fault warning
appears on the display. Make sure that the weft density, the load value as a result of the warp
tension and the use of the cramming motion fall within the limits given in the Socos manual
tables (sect. 2 - chap. 6.2).
If the red led <± 12 goes on, it means that a fault has been recorded on the service power supplies
(± 12 Vdc). As long as the light stays on, the drive is disabled. Resetting occurs automatically as
soon as the fault is eliminated.
If the red led T°C goes on, it means that the thermal cutout has tripped due to overtemperature
on the dissipator (approx. 65°C). Resetting occurs when the dissipator temperature drops to
approx. 55°C.
POSSIBLE CAUSES: too heavy work cycle - imperfect contact between the drive
fastening plate and the main dissipator, or the drive is poorly ventilated - malfunc-
tioning of the corresponding EWC or ETD motor encoder.
REMEDIES: Make sure that the weft density falls within the limits given in the
Socos manual tables (sect. 2 - chap. 6.2);
- check the operation of the fans - check and clean the motor, test the mechanics of
the corresponding reduction gear - replace the motor.
If the red led V<80 goes on, it means that the drive's power supply voltage is too low. When this
signal is on, the device is disabled. Resetting takes place automatically as soon as the cause is
remedied.
POSSIBLE CAUSES: the transformer's secondary voltage is too low (less than 80
Vac). - a phase is lacking, e.g., due to tripping of one of the fuses on the transform-
er's lower voltage input.
If the red led >I Max goes on, it means that an excessively high current peak has been re-
corded and the drive is consequently blocked. Resetting may take place only by switching the
device off and then on again, after the fault has been remedied.
If the green led DRIVE OK goes off, it means that there is a fault on the drive.
POSSIBLE CAUSES: -a fault led has gone on - the drive is not powered.
If the green led BRAKE OK goes off permanently, it means that fuse F1 (next to the led) has
burnt. During proper operation, this led should stay on and go off only briefly when the motor
brakes (cramming motion).
2.1 TROUBLESHOOTING
If any of the 4 red leds goes on or the green DRIVER OK led goes off, it means that there is a
fault which prevents proper operation of the device. For each type of signal, we are listing below
a number of possible causes.
60°C). Resetting occurs when the dissipator temperature drops to
approx. 50°C.
POSSIBLE CAUSES: too heavy work cycle - imperfect contact between the drive
fastening plate and the main dissipator, or the drive is poorly ventilated - malfunc-
tioning of the corresponding EWC or ETD motor encoder.
REMEDIES: make sure that the weft density, the warp tension load and the use of
the cramming motion fall within the limits given in the Socos manual tables (chapter
6.2 of section 2-6); check the operation of the fans; check and clean the motor
brushes; test the mechanics of the corresponding reduction gear; replace the motor.
If the red led V<80 goes on, it means that the drive's power supply voltage is too low. When this
signal is on, the device is disabled. Resetting takes place automatically as soon as the cause is
remedied.
POSSIBLE CAUSES: the transformer's secondary voltage is too low (less than 80
Vac) - a phase is lacking, e.g., due to tripping of one of the fuses on the transform-
er's lower voltage input.
POSSIBLE CAUSES: a fault led has gone on; the drive is not powered.
If the green led ENABLE comes on, it means that the drive has been enabled by the Socos.
If the green led BRAKE OK goes off permanently, it means that fuse F1 (next to the led) has
burnt. During proper operation, this led should stay on and go off only briefly when the motor
brakes (cramming motion).
The Excel board also contains a number of leds which indicate the status of the various appliances.
The loom is also provided with the Monitor Tester which, after connection to the IO.. cards, indicates
the input and output signals of the cards connected.
In case of loom malfunctioning, check first of all the status of the leds on the cards, on the power
modules and on the IO cards, against the led tables supplied.
This could assist you in solving the problem and enable Somet's After-sales Service (supplied with
information on the status of the leds lit up on the different devices and with the number of any alarms
displayed) to monitor what is happening on the electric board.
