Lesson Idea Name: What’s that Planet?

Content Area: Science
Grade Level(s): 4th
Content Standard Addressed: S4E1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to compare and
contrast the physical attributes of stars and planets.

Technology Standard Addressed: 1. Empowered Learner

Selected Technology Tool:

☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☒ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☐ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☒ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Using a class set of clickers (iPads, computers) would eliminate
problems of individual students not having personal technology, like a cell phone. The time limit for the
questions will also extend until every participant has answered the question, to make sure no student is
unable to answer the question due to not enough time.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity. Lessons on the planets and their attributes will be covered in the week leading up, using
interactive presentations and worksheets. Each planet will have its own lesson in the classroom, allowing
focused information on each planet can be gathered. At the end of the unit, the Kahoot! will be announced,
with the top 3 winners getting up to 5 bonus points on the unit test.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: Students will pull up the Kahoot! quiz on their
individual devices and follow along and complete the activity. Teacher will watch over the class and offer
assistance as needed. Quiz should take about 15 minutes from start to finish.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☐ Yes
☒ No
Why or why not? Kahoot! does not allow for the display of correct answers after the question is answered.
However, the class will run through the assignment together after its completion to review the correct
answers.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity? Teacher will observe the scores of the class and
determine if more review is needed.

How will the data be used? The teacher can gauge how wellthe students have grasped the differences
between the planets, and be able to tell if more review is needed before the unit test.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I want to present information in a way that is both
enjoyable and educational for students, and provide them with information that will help them retain
information far into the future.

Reflective Practice: The lesson could show students that in class activities and learning can be a fun
experience, and good and attentive work can lead to rewards more than just good grades.
