1. Write a biography of a famous person. Start with an orientation, describe the events,
and finish it with the reorientation. Write at least 150 words.

SRI MULYANI
Sri Mulyani is one of the women with a lot of achievements in Indonesia and internationally. She is
an Indonesian Women's Figure and also an Indonesian Economic Expert. She was born on August 26, 1962
in Lampung. Her father named Prof. Dr. Satmoko is a professor at Semarang State University, and her
mother is Prof. Dr. Retno Sriningsih Satmoko who is also a professor at Semarang State University. Sri
Mulyani was born to an educated family. She was the seventh child of 10 siblings.
Sri Mulyani's parents always emphasized that education is an mportant thing for their children. She
had attended SMP Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung from 1975 to 1978, and moved to Semarang and then
continued her education at Senior High School 3 Semarang from 1978 to 1981.
Sri Mulyani then chose to continue her education in the Department of Economics of Development
Studies Program (ESP) at the University of Indonesia. She graduated S1 in 1986 with the title of Best
Graduate. She received a S2 scholarship abroad from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the
United States.
Sri Mulyani completed her master's program in 1990 by taking concentration in the Public Finance
and Urban Economy fields. While Sri Mulyani's doctoral program was completed in 1992 with a dissertation
on Income Tax, she completed her master's and doctorate in just four years.
After completing her doctoral program, she returned to Indonesia and worked as deputy director of
education and training at the Institute for Economic and Community Research (LPEM) at the University of
Indonesia until 1995 and later became Deputy Head of Research for LPEM until 1998.
Then in 2002, Sri Mulyani moved to Washington DC and worked as Executive Director at the IMF.
Several years working at the IMF, in 2004 Sri Mulyani then returned to Indonesia after being appointed by
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as the Indonesian Minister of National Development Planning in the
United Indonesia cabinet until 2005. In 2009 Sri Mulyani wrote a letter of resignation to President SBY.
The following year, 2010, Sri Mulyani was then appointed as Managing Director of the World Bank
replacing Juan Jose Daboub. She worked at the World Bank until 2016 and moved to America, which then
returned to Indonesia after being appointed by President Joko Widodo as Minister of Finance in July 2016.
The name Sri Mulyani is not only known in Indonesia, but she is also famous in the international
world. He was even elected Asia's Best Minister of Finance in 2006 and then Forbes magazine chose him as
the world's most influential woman 23rd in 2008 and the second most influential woman in Indonesia by
2007 Globe Asia magazine.

2. Constructing a spoof text

• Think of a funny incident that happened to you.
• Here are some questions to help you add necessary and interesting
information to your story.
1. Who was involved in your story? A couple, husband and wife
2. Where did it happen? In their home or room
3. When did it happen? In middle of night
4. What are the important events in the story? When the wife told her dream to her
husband
• Follow the rhetorical steps of spoof texts: orientation, events, and twist.

Orientation Once there was a couple sleeping. The wife had a bad dream.

She woke up, and was scared and cried. Her husband was wondered, why was his
wife so shocked and sad. Her husband tried to comfort her and asked why she
cried. His wife answered with sobs. Then she replied: “I had a dream that a very
Events rich and handsome man kidnapped me from you. The man took me on a vacation
to travel the world and spend me very luxurious items. In my dream, the man was
very romantic to me.” Hearing his wife answer, the husband said: “It’s
okay, Honey, it was just a dream.”
