1. BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW

Explanation - Trying to do something that is too difficult or time consuming to finish.


Example - "I'm glad you want to prepare the report by yourself. just be sure that you don't bite off more than you
can chew."

2. CLEAR THE AIR

Explanation - Discuss something that was causing people to feel upset.

Example - "There seems to have been a misunderstanding. i'd like to explain what happened, just to clear the
air."

3. A CLASS ACT

Explanation - Sophisticated, above average.

Example - "He offered to help, even though he doesn't know me. he's a real class act."

4. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER

Explanation - Get more organized.

Example - "You have been late for work every day this week. if you want to keep this job, you must get your act
together."

5. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS

Explanation - "People's intentions can be judged better by what they do than what they say."

Example - You should always watch your action, because action speak louder then words

6. IN THE AIR
Explanation – Being discussed. generally obvious.

Example - "The days are getting longer and the flowers are blooming. Spring is in the air."

Explanation – Something that is difficult to define.

Example – “I researched your case but there are not any black and white answers. your situation seems to fall
into a grey area."

Explanation - Be happy when a person leaves.

Example – “That guy bothers me. i'll be glad to see the back of him."

9. GIVE HIM CREDIT


Explanation - Acknowledge an achievement or contribution of a person."

Example - "Although he is not easy to work for, you have to give him credit for managing the company well."

Explanation - Everyone is entitled to his own individual opinion.

Example - "I can't say that i like george's new furniture. it seems very plain and uncomfortable. oh well, each to
his own."

Explanation - Enter by force

Example - Burglars broke into the house around midnight.

6 Break up

Explanation - Come to an end (marriage, relationship)

Example - After her marriage broke up, Emma went to live in London.

7 Call back

Explanation - Return a phone call

Example - I'll call you back as soon as possible.

8 Check in

Explanation - Register at a hotel or airport

Example - For security reasons you have to check in two hours before your flight.

9 Close down

Explanation - Stop operating (company, restaurant, cinema).

Example - When the factory closed down, the employees lost their jobs.

10 Deal with

Explanation - Handle, take care of  (problem, situation)

Example - The manager is good at dealing with difficult customers.
