PARALLEL TEACHING : an approach towards increasing

students’ learning achievements

Background :

On almost all occasions, students’ learning achievement in Science fared poorly when
compared to the rest of the subjects, be the assessments were done at the school level or at the
national level. Science being the bottom dweller in the hierarchy of measurement of performance
is indeed one of the most difficult subjects. Being the case and considering the number of
identified reasons for the cause of poor performance, it is an attempt of the proponent to pilot
two G8 sections to undergo parallel teaching approach and find out if the result can provide
positive indications that may lead to students’ better learning achievement in Science.

In parallel teaching, two science teachers plan jointly to teach the same information at
the same time. For example, both science teachers, Mrs. Espiritu and Mrs. Magpantay, could be
explaining the same science lesson in two different classrooms for thirty minutes and exchange
classes for the remaining thirty minutes. Each teacher has the comfort level of working
separately to teach the same lesson since the pre-planning was made thereby providing better
teaching.

Mechanism :

The piloting will start immediately once proposal is approved. Two classes, G8-
Mahoganay and G8 – Guijo, are the identified sections since one of these two sections is handled
by the proponent.
