Clasificación Animal. Bases de la
Nomenclatura Zoológica.
Rhamnocercus dominguesi n. sp.

Type host: Paralonchurus peruanus

(Steindachner, 1875) (Sciaenidae),
Peruvian banded croaker.
Site of infection: Gill filaments.
Type locality: Callao, Peru (12°4'S,
77°10'W).
Type material: Holotype (MUSM 3292);
5 paratype (MUSM 3293–3297) and 8
paratype (CHIOC XXX).
Etymology. This species is named in
honor to Dr. Marcus Vinicius Domingues
(Federal University of Pará, Brazil) for
his contribution to the knowledge of
diplectanids in Neotropical fish.
Rhamnocercoides menticirrhi

Host: Menticirrhus ophicephalus

(Sciaenidae), snakehead kingcroaker.
Locality: Callao, Peru (12°4'S, 77°10'W).
Site of infection: Gill filaments.
Type material: Neotype (MUSM 3288); 4
paraneotypes (MUSM 3289–3291) and 4
paraneotypes (CHIOC xxx).

Search of type-specimens of R. menticirrhi, which had been allegedly deposited in the

Helminthological Collection of the Ricardo Palma University (CHURP), Lima, Peru, revealed
that this collection no more exist and were destroyed two decades ago. Nevertheless, we were
able to examine one specimen of the Helminthological Collection of the Museum of Natural
History of San Marcos University (MUSM), Lima, Peru. Since the type material of R.
menticirrhi, type species of the genus, has disappeared and the only voucher available was in
very poor condition, neotype and paraneotypes are designated herein following
recommendation of the International Code of Zoology Nomenclature (Article 75).
