He was one of nine children and his father was a
goldsmith. In 1882, he enrolled at the Academia
Imperial de Belas Artes in Rio de Janeiro, but left
two years later to attend the free painting classes
being offered by the German immigrant artist Georg
Grimm.In 1885, when Grimm left to work in the
countryside, Parreiras became an autodidact. A year
later, one of his works was purchased by Emperor
Pedro II.
This allowed him to resume his formal studies and
travel to Europe in 1888, entering the Accademia di
Belle Arti di Venezia where his teacher was Filippo
Carcano. Upon his return to Brazil two years later,
he participated in the "Exposiçã o Gerais de Belas
Artes".

THE EXHIBITION
It was elaborated from materials such as
polyamide stockings, polystyrene spheres,
spices and herbs – into large, immersive
installations that proposes to the spectator a
space for conviviality, for taking a breath and
for fostering consciousness and awareness. His
sculptural practice is engendered by the
tension embodied in textile materials and in
handicraft techniques like crochet. These great

rituals and
actions that reveal the artist’s current
concerns: the af irmation of the body as an
element that cannot be dissociated from the
mind and from spirituality.

THE ARTIST
He’s a brazilian plastic artist, at the beginning
of his career, his career was marked by the
works of artists José Resende (1945) and
Tunga (1952), exploring formal and symbolic
articulations between diverse subjects. He
learned a lot from the plastic artist Roberto
Moriconi who helped him to grow in his
career.
TARSILA
DO AMARAL
ARTIST
Tarsila do Amaral was born on September
1st, 1886, in the town of Capivari, in the
interior of the state of Sã o Paulo, Brazil. She
was the daughter of José Estanislau do
Amaral and Lydia Dias de Aguiar do Amaral.
Tarsila’s father was a wealthy landowner,
and she spent her childhood on her father’s
farms. Later she studied at Colé gio Sion, a
convent school in Sã o Paulo, and then in
Barcelona, Spain, where she produced her
irst painting Sagrado Coraçã o de Jesus
(Sacred Heart of Jesus) in 1904. Upon
returning to Brazil, Tarsila married André
Teixeira Pinto, and gave birth to her only
child, Dulce.

PAUL
MITCHEL DUPUY
ARTIST
Paul Michel Dupuy was a French painter of
genre and landscape. He was born in Pau
(Basses-Pyrenees) on the 22nd of March
1869 and died in Paris in 1949. As well as
landscapes he depicted elegant women and
children at ease in playful sunny scenes.
Dupuy studied under Bonnat and Maignan
during the golden age and was made a
member of the Society of French Artists in
1899. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes
Francais and won medals in 1901 and in
1902. Dupuy gained more awards during his
long career, culminating with the Chevalier
de la Legion d’Honneur in 1933.
