Learning activity 1

Evidence: The time is now

This evidence is divided into two parts: A composition and an audio file. Read
the instructions below and make sure you complete both tasks.

A. Answer the questions below. Use the examples as models of the grammar
and vocabulary you have to use.

1. Why didn’t you study English before? (List at least 5 reasons in a


composition.)

Example:

One of the reasons why I didn’t study English before it is because I


thought it was too difficult. I didn’t understand my English teacher at
school and that was frustrating.
The main reason why i had not studied English before, was because i saw it unncessary

Another reason was because i studied my elementary school in a rural school and we saw that subject
by student requirement and not because we liked it very much

Did not understand and also did not pay much attention to that class, he saw it as something impossible
to learn
-
I was frustrated not being able to learn easily the things that left us as Jobs
-
We did not have the sufficient tools to see the matter, besides the primers the gave us with those
subjects was very confusing

2. How different would things be if you had learned English before? (Name
and explain at least 5 things.)

Example:

If I had learned English some years ago I would have accepted a job a
multinational company offered me five years ago. One of the requirements
was to speak English and my level back then was very low.

1 English is the most commonly spoken language in the


world. One out of five people can speak or at least
understand English!
2. English is the language of science, of aviation, computers,
diplomacy, and tourism. Knowing English increases your
chances of getting a good job in a multinational company
within your home country or of finding work abroad.
3. English is the official language of 53 countries. That is a lot
of people to meet and speak to.
4. English is spoken as a first language by around 400 million
people around the world.
5. English is the language of the media industry. If you speak
English, you won't need to rely on translations and subtitles
anymore to enjoy your favourite books, songs, films and TV
shows.
B. Record an audio file of yourself answering the following questions. Use the
examples as models of the grammar and vocabulary you have to use.

1. Why are you studying English? (List and explain at least 4 reasons.)

 I am studying English because it improves my job stability.


I am studying English to reinforce my knowledge in my profession
 I am studying English to offer a better quality of life to my daughter
 I am studying English because I consider it necessary in our social
development

2. In what ways are you going to benefit from this learning?

Being competent in the English language would allow me to expand my


knowledge regarding the professional field, as well as to find a better job to
provide a better quality of life for my family.
