Michael Abimanyu Kaeng

Michael was born in Jakarta on 19th May 2004. He started learning piano at the age of five
under the guidance of Mr. Oerip Santoso. He started to join piano competitions in 2011. Until
now, he has won more than 25 trophies. He was a finalist or winner in some prestigious piano
competitions such as Indonesia Steinway Youth Piano Competition, Jakarta Conservatory of
Music-Boston Piano Competition, Yamaha Piano Competition and Ananda Sukarlan Award.

In 2016, Michael received the gold medal in the 6th Singapore Performers' Festival &
Chamber Music Competition at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Singapore. This was his
first international piano competition.

In 2018, Michael won La Pianista Competition in Indonesia and was awarded a trip to Berlin
and Prague to have some Master Classes and other musical activities. He got the opportunity
to visit Mendelssohn’s gravesite and watch some orchestra concerts in Berlin. He was also
selected to participate in The International Piano Competition in Enschede, The Netherlands,
along with young pianists from more than 20 countries. At the age of 14, he was one of the
five finalists of the Senior Category in Ananda Sukarlan Award (other finalists were above 20
years old).

Michael attended some master classes with Jean Louis Haguenauer, Ananda Sukarlan,
Henoch Kristianto, Adelaide Simbolon, and Anthony Hartono. Besides playing piano, Michael
loves to play soccer with his brothers and friends.
