VisualLogic AX/N4 Tool Licensing FAQ

This document answers questions regarding compatibility, licensing and binding for the Alerton
VisualLogic AX/N4 Tools (p/n AT-VL-AX and AT-VL-N4, Web Channel orderable p/n ALERTON-TOOLS)

Q1. Will the AT-VL-AX/N4 tool work with a non-Alerton branded Niagara Supervisor license?
A1. No, you cannot apply a licensed option to a Demo/Kit version of a Supervisor license.

Q2. Can I apply the AX/N4 tool to an Alerton Demo Supervisor license?
A2. No, The license is already included and has already been updated on the license Server.
Please download the updated license from the license server.

Q3. Can I apply the AX/N4 tool to an Alerton ALER-8000-DEMO (Engineering version of ALER-8000)?
A3. No, The license is already included and has already been updated on the license Server.

Q4. Can I apply the AX/N4 tool to a non-Alerton branded Supervisor?

A4. Depends on the NICs statement of the Supervisor which must be "Open".

Q5. Can I apply the AX/N4 tool to a non-Alerton branded JACE?

A5. Depends on the NICs statement of the JACE which must be "Open".

Q6. How do I bind the AX/N4 license to a non-Alerton branded Supervisor or JACE?
A6. During the binding process make sure you use the license key of the Supervisor or JACE you are binding
the AT-VL-N4 license to.
WARNING: Do not use the Host ID to bind the AX/N4 license since the Host ID may have several
licenses bound to it including Compass.

Q7. How do I determine the license key of a non-Alerton branded Supervisor or JACE?
A7. Obtain this information from the other vendor or customer who should be able to obtain it from
Niagara-Central.

Q8. After binding AX/N4 to a non-Alerton branded Supervisor or JACE I cannot find the license to
download, what happened?
A8. The other vendor will need to download the license from Niagara-Central or use the "Platform" license
tool to update the license.
Alerton Technical Support and Customer Service does not have access to third party Tridium systems.

Q9. If I already have the AT-VL-AX part bound to an Alerton branded JACE or Supervisor and upgrade that
JACE or Supervisor to N4, what happens?
A9. You will need to purchase the AT-VL-N4 part and bind it to the JACE or Supervisor to use the N4 version
of the tool.

Q10. Can we unbind the AX/N4 part from a JACE or Supervisor to use on a different system?
A10. No, we do not unbind licenses.

Q11. I bound the license to a different brand Supervisor but the license is not valid. How do we fix this?
A11. You will need to import the alerton.certificate into the Platform and restart the station. (Platform
connection > License Manager > Import Certificate etc.)
NOTE: The process is the same for the Supervisor (Win-) and JACE (Qnx-), AX and N4 versions. The
same alerton.certificate is for both versions.

Q12. What do I do if I am still having licensing issues with the AX/N4 part?
A12. Please contact Alerton Technical Support tech.support@alerton.com with the Host ID of the target
system (Must be Alerton branded) and the License Key of the AX/N4 tool.

The Alerton VisualLogic Toolkit-N4 license is included with the Alerton Brand N4 Engineering software
(A-SUP-DEMO) and ALER-8000-KIT. The Alerton VisualLogic Toolkit-AX license is included with the Alerton
Brand AX Engineering software (ALR-ENG-DEMO-AX).
