PAST CONTINUOUS

We use Past Continuous to say that somebody was in the middle of doing
something at a certain time. The action or situation had already started
before this time but had not finished.

Formula: (+) S + to be 2 + V-ing + O + A

(-) S + to be 2 + not + V-ing + O + A

(?) to be 2 + S + V-ing + O + A ?

Examples: I was cooking a cake this time last night.

I wasn’t cooking a cake this time last night.

Were you cooking a cake this time last night?

Compare with Past Simple :

Past Continuous Past Simple

In the middle of action Complete Action

Past Simple happened after Past Continuous.

Example : When I was walking along the road, I saw Dave.
