Lesson Plan Day 1 July 10th

Introduction to Shapes

Topic: Recognize and draw shapes Grade Level:2nd grade Name: Stephanie Valentin

Lesson Type: New materials Performance Level: on Group Size: None

Standard: Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or
a given number of equal faces.1 Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.

Objective: Student will be able to accurately recognize and draw shapes such as triangles,
quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons and cubes 4 out of 5 times during camp during the lesson.

Assessment plan: Invite students to draw a triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon and a cube one
shape at a time and write one thing they learned about each shape on the poster paper next to the
shape itself. Make sure all the students are given different shapes in random order. So, no two
students will draw the same shape at the same time. Students will circle a smiley, confused, or a
frown face at the end of the day.

Key vocabulary terms and definitions:

Triangle: Has 3 straight sides

Quadrilateral: Has 4 sides

Pentagon: Has 5 sides

Hexagon: Has 6 sides and angles

Cube: Has 6 equal, square-shaped sides

Materials: straws, tape, poster paper, crayons, shape book

Differentiation/Accommodations:

Support: Have support teacher sit next to the student who needs more help or is being disruptive to
the whole class.
