INTRODUCTION TO BIOLOGY:

BIOLOGY:
A branch of natural science which deals with the living
organisms and different phenomena of life is called Biology.The
word biology comes from two Greek words “bios” means life
and “logos” means to study.
BRANCHES OF BIOLOGY:
MORPHOLOGY:
The study of external structural characteristics of a living
organismis called as morphology.
ANATOMY:
The branch which deals with the study of internal parts of living
organismsby naked eyes seen after cutting is called as anatomy.
HISTOLOGY:
The study of cells and tissues of plants and animals under the
microscope is called histology.
CELL BIOLOGY(CYTOLOGY):
The study of structure,function and composition of cells and
their organelles is called cell biology.
PHYSIOLOGY:
The study of different functions performed by different parts of
living organism is called physiology.
ECOLOGY:
The study of organisms in relation to each other and their
environment is called ecology or environmental biology.
TAXONOMY:
Living organisms are classified into groups and subgroupson
the basis of similarities and differences. This is called
classification. Taxonomy is that branch of biology in which
organisms are classified and also given their scientific names.
