Statement of Purpose Mayank Sharma

“People often become what they believe themselves to be. If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me
incapable of doing it. But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I did not have it in the
beginning.”
-Mohandas Gandhi

One might wonder what even made me quote this. Well, this is one of the quotes that has been ringing in my ears from
the time I heard it from my Father and has been a great deal of inspiration ever since. I always believed that I would
become an able Electrical engineer. To pursue higher education in electrical by doing my masters at the premier
university, and thereby make a mark in the field of Electrical. My aspiration is to acquire wisdom from the knowledge and
thereby give it back to the scientific community. Since my childhood, my father has been prominently motivational and
inspirational idol to me. Being a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a part of the state electrical department, my
father inculcated my mind with ideas and the ability to question the very existence of things around me. I used to visit his
office and field work, where we had lengthy discussions on the application of electrical subjects. These discussions left an
indelible impression in my mind and made me choose Electrical engineering as my undergraduate course. My interactions
with my father gave me an opportunity to verify facts and theoretical knowledge I acquired during my undergraduate
classes with practical fields.

With a sound school background, I have successfully completed my 10 years of schooling and scored 85% in my X
standard and got 80% in XII standard. My inherent strengths have been my quantitative and analytical abilities, which
instilled in me a special interest in mathematics. I opted Electrical Engineering as my discipline in Rajkiya Engineering
college affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, one of the premier institutes in India. I passed this Under
Graduation course with an aggregate of 69.34%.

The four years of undergraduate education have been a great learning and enriching process for me. I studied the
rudiments of Electrical Engineering especially in the fields of Electrical Machines, Electronic Devices and Circuits, Power
systems, Pulse and Digital Circuits, Power Electronics, Microprocessor, Network theory, Electrical Measurements, and
Control Systems. I have also undergone training in programming languages like C, MATLAB and operating systems such
as WINDOWS & LINUX

During my Internship in Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), I learned about the practical aspects of
Electrical systems, whilst giving me an opportunity to use my theoretical knowledge in a real-time environment. Working
with the senior engineers of 33/11 KV substation was a great experience for me.

I have worked in Fujiyama power systems pvt limited from 17/oct/2016 to 07/April/2019 as a Research and development
engineer. In these 2 years and 5 months I have learned a lot about electrical systems. Me and my team worked mainly on
sensors and motors of Electrical rickshaws, and designing of UPS. I have designed many UPS during my job.

Technical knowledge is just a part of student life and will never be completed without extracurricular activities. There are
several other facets of life. I am a voracious reader of English literature and Indian literature. I play FootBall and
Taekwondo and have won quite a few medals in Taekwondo championship. Being a gregarious person I always looked
for some activity to keep me engaged and set me thinking. This led me to music. I am a guitarist and vocalist. I have
composed some songs and have won many singing competitions during my undergraduate course.

I was the team leader for the project “Four Quadrant Operation of DC motor remotely controlled by android application”, In
this project, the speed of the motor was controlled using an android application Arduino servo motor control. The main
hardware components of the circuit were 8051 microcontrollers, motor driver L293D IC, DC motor, Bluetooth module, and
Android smartphone. This project has various real-time applications like industrial applications, escalators, elevators,
robotic applications, and security systems applications. The project was successfully completed under the guidance of Mr.
Anant Kumar Verma, Head of Electrical Department.

I found that your esteemed university suit very well to my aspirations, goals and it is student friendly. To quote a few, this
university has world-class infrastructure and outstanding faculty who has vast experience in academic fields, in-depth
knowledge in Electrical systems and Energy systems, published a plethora of IEEE journals and have impressive patents.
I strongly believe admission into your esteemed university provides me with an opportunity to learn research and enrich
my skills. I have a vast theory and practical knowledge of electrical courses. I am sure that presented with an opportunity,
I will blend my skills with university facilities to bring about novel techniques and technology in Electrical power systems.

One final honest to goodness thought I have to admit, in conclusion, I feel I would like to give back society all valuable and
technical skills that I will be gaining from your university. Although I do have adequate funding to get through my
graduation study any form of financial support would be a booster to my motivation and ease the burden off the shoulders
of my parents.

Hence, I am eagerly looking forward to a favorable decision regarding my application from your university.
