Turning on the equipment

1. Turn on the Learning Glass by lightly tapping the switch on the bottom right corner of the frame.

2. Turn on the camera.

3. Turn on the two side lights. Feel free to play around with the positioning of the two side lights until you
have the desired lighting effects.

4. Turn on the top light. Flip all 4 switches to the I position. Do not move the top light, as it is positioned to
reflect off the ceiling.

5. Log into the computer using the Guest account.

6. Make sure the polarizer filter is on the screen to eliminate glare.

7. Open OBS Software.

Setting up the camera source

8. In the bottom left corner, in the Scenes box, click on Scene.

9. In the adjacent Sources box, click on the plus (+) symbol, then select the Blackmagic Device option.
10. On the pop-up window, choose Create New. Make sure the “Make Source Visible” box is checked, and
then press OK.

11. In the resulting Properties box, select the “UltraStudio Mini Recorder” from the Device dropdown
menu, “1080i59.94” from the mode tab, and “8-bit YUV” from the Pixel Format, then press OK. If the
correct properties are selected, you should be seeing the input from the camera on the screen.
12. If it is necessary to flip the screen, in the Sources box, right-click the Blackmagic Device, go to
Transform, and select “Flip Horizontal.”
13. On the main screen, click and drag the red handles to resize and crop the video input to remove the
learning glass frame.
Inserting a PowerPoint Aid
14. Create a PowerPoint presentation with a green, blue, or magenta background. Select appropriate
high-contrast colors for the font. Make sure the PowerPoint presentation is open in the background.

15. In the Sources box, click on the plus (+) symbol, then select the Window Capture option.

16. In the pop-up window, choose Create New. You may want to rename this source if you plan to have
multiple sources. Make sure the “Make Source Visible” box is checked, and then press OK.
17. In the resulting Properties box, select the PowerPoint (or other window) you want to overlay on the
Learning Glass, and then press OK.

18. In the Sources box, right-click the PowerPoint source, and select Filters.
19. In the resulting pop-up window, under the Effect Filters box, click on the plus (+) symbol, then select
“Chroma Key.” Then press OK in the naming box.

20. In the “Key Color Type” dropbox, select the color of the background you chose (for the example, we
use Green). Play around with the settings to get the desired colors and opacity for the PowerPoint.
21. To crop off the unwanted portions of the PowerPoint window, under the Effect Filters box, click on
the plus (+) symbol, then select “Crop/Pad.” Choose appropriate values for the cropping until the
PowerPoint is as desired. Close the window when done.

22. Back in the main window, highlight the “PowerPoint” source in the Sources window, and you will
notice an outline around the PowerPoint. Use the handles to resize and reposition the window as you
please.
**Note that closing the PowerPoint window will require you to re-setup the Window Capture in OBS.

Recording a video
23. After setting everything up, you may want to move the laptop back behind the Learning Glass so you
can look at it without looking away from the camera. The wireless track pad can be used as a wireless
mouse to do any clicking necessary to operate the PowerPoint/Recording.

24. In the bottom right corner of the main screen, click Start Recording.

25. After you have started recording, the button will have turned into Stop Recording. When you have
clicked Stop Recording, the video will be saved onto the desktop.
