This contract is for the supervision of the counselling of James Beattie by Kitty Vivekananda, within the
requirements of his duties as a telephone counsellor with Kids Help Line.
1. Goals and Objectives
to promote the development of the Supervisee's professional competence as a telephone counsellor
to promote the welfare of callers to Kids Help Line who are counselled by the Supervisee
to fulfil the requirements of QCA Inc. membership
2. Context and Content
individual supervision—one hour fortnightly during the Supervisee’s probationary period (first 250 hours of
counselling and clientrelated work); one hour monthly after completion of probationary period
group supervision as available
methods to be used: case discussions; readings and discussion of theory and models; role playing; tape analyis
feedback will be provided at each session
records will include details of major issues discussed and any counselling approaches and strategies used or
proposed
3. Duties and Responsibilities
(a) Supervisor:
encourage ongoing professional education
challenge Supervisee to validate approach and techniques used
monitor basic microskills
offer alternative approaches for the Supervisee
intervene where client welfare is at risk
ensure ethical guidelines and professional standards are maintained
obtain consultation when necessary
The Supervisor is employed as a counselling supervisor by Kids Help Line. She has extensive experience as a
counselling supervisor with Kids Help Line, in adolescent and family counselling and in educational counselling.
She is a registered psychologist in Queensland, a Member of the Australian Psychological Society and a Member of
the College of Counselling Psychologists.
(b) Supervisee:
uphold ethical guidelines and professional standards of Kids Help Line
discuss client cases with the aid of written case notes and audio tapes
validate approach and techniques used
be open to challenge, change and the consideration of alternative methods of practice
consult designated shift supervisor or other appropriate contact person in cases of emergency
maintain a commitment to both inservice and selfdirected education
maintain a commitment to the counselling profession
The Supervisee is working as a parttime, paid telephone counsellor with Kids Help Line, which is a free, national
telephone counselling service operating out of Brisbane and available to people between the ages of 5 and 18. His
qualifications include a Graduate Diploma in Counselling, a BA (Hons) in philosophy and a PhD in the philosophy
of cognitive science.
4. Agreement
This contract is subject to revision at any time upon the request of either Supervisor or Supervisee. It will be
reviewed at least annually.
We agree, to the best of our ability, to uphold the guidelines specified in this supervision contract and to manage the
supervision relationship and process according to the ethical principles of QCA Inc.
