Does the dye scatter throughout the liquid (forming a homogeneous solution), or is the mixture
not the same throughout (forming a heterogeneous mixture)?
Experiment 2 WATER AND OIL: Fill a test tube about 1/3 of the way up with water. Now add Figure 2 Test tubes in Test
an equal amount of vegetable oil on top of the water. Add a single drop of dye for color. Put Tube Rack.

oil and water, let the test tube sit in the test tube wrack. Use your camera to take close up
pictures every minute or so to document the changes in the mixture. Save and print the pictures
to put in your lab journal later.

2. Now use a stirring rod or stick to stir the vinegar and oil, then stop mixing. Stop and observe the mixture for a few
minutes. Note what happens:
3. In another beaker, add a few pipettes of vinegar and one egg yoke. Mix this egg mixture well with the stirring rod or
stick.
4. Now fill the beaker about ½ the beaker of vegetable oil and a teaspoon of vinegar to the beaker with the egg mixture.
Mixall the materials together with the stirring rod as best you can. Note what happens:
