Story: The Best Gift
MATERIALS
1. Gaining Attention of the students
Ask the pupils what was the best gift that
they received during Christmas.
2. Informing Students of the Objectives
Read to the class the objectives for the day.
3. Stimulating recall of prior learning
Ask the pupils what they remember in their
LEARNING lesson in CLE. Ask them what their CLE
ACTIVITIES teacher has taught them about the best gift
we receive during Christmas.
4. Presenting the content
a. Read the story “The Best Gift” to the
children. After the story ask pupils
comprehension questions about the
story on pp. 206 of the textbook.
b. Ask the pupils to underline as much
verbs as they can that are found in the

Kinds of Adverbs (Time and Place)
To identify adverbs of time and place in given
sentences.
To write sentences by supplying an adverb of time or
place.
Pictures of different actions in different places
1. Gaining Attention of the students
Ask the pupils what they did during their Christmas
break. List down their answers on the board.
2. Informing Students of the Objectives
Read to the class the objectives for the day.
3. Stimulating recall of prior learning
Ask the pupils to share what they learned about the
story and about adverbs during the previous
meeting.
4. Presenting the content
a. From the sharing of the pupils listed on the board
ask the pupils to point out the verbs and where it
happened. (e.g. I played in the park. – students will
have to point out the verb played, and it happened
in the park). Then, start the discussion on adverbs of
place.

Kinds of Adverbs (Manner)
To identify adverbs of manner in given
sentences.
To complete sentences by supplying an
adverb of Manner
To classify adverbs according to time,
place and manner

1. Gaining Attention of the Students
Let the pupils play Simon Says and ask
them to do actions with adverbs of
manner. (e.g. stand straight).
2. Informing Students of the Objectives
Read to the class the objectives of the
day.
3. Stimulating Recall of Prior Learning
Ask the pupils about the previous lesson
on adverbs by naming the different types
of adverbs discussed the previous day.
4. Presenting the Content
a. Start the discussion on Adverbs of
Manner by asking the pupils the following
questions: What actions did Simon ask
you to do? How did Simon tell you to do
it?

Identifying Cause and Effect
To identify the cause and effect of given
situations.
To identify possible causes or possible effects of
a situation.
Worksheets
1. Gaining Attention of the students
Show a picture to the children of a child
throwing garbage in the river. Ask the pupils
the possible effects of the action.
2. Informing Students of the Objectives
Read to the class the objectives for the day.
3. Stimulating recall of prior learning
Give a recap on the previous lesson on cause
and effect by asking a pupil to define the words
cause and effect.
4. Presenting the content
Explain that it is important to learn about cause
and effect since we can find solutions to
problems if we know the cause or we can
prevent bad things from happening if we know
the effects of something (give the example of
the picture of a child throwing garbage. Since

missed out in the story.

Ask the pupils to write a journal about the different
exciting things they did from December until
January. Ask them to use adverbs of time and place
to give more details to their sentences.
6. Providing feedback
Check the Journals of the children and circle the
different adverbs that they used in their sentences.

b. Write sentences on the board and ask
the pupils to complete the sentences
using an adverb of manner.
5. Eliciting Performance
Group the pupils into six groups. Each
group will have one representative per
round. In each round, ask the pupils to
write the verb and the adverb found in a
given sentence. After a couple of rounds,
ask the representatives to write whether
the given adverb is an adverb of time,
place or manner.
6. Providing Feedback
Explain to the class that it is important to
study adverbs because they give more
details to what we say. Ask the pupils to
take note of the mistakes they got.
Answer pp. 115-117 of the skillbook.
Prepare for a Summative test tomorrow
on Kinds of Adverbs.
