"Republic Act 9994 and The Quality of Life of Senior Citizens in Selected Barangays of General Santos City " Key Informant Interview (
1) What support services do you provide for the benefits of the Senior Citizens in
General Santos City, in partnership with the Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs?
Response:
The intervention was mainly focused on the mentioned Barangays and not at the
federation level or OSCA level. But in most of the activities, OSCA were involved
as partner organization but not as a direct beneficiary of the project. However,
COSE facilitated the different awareness raising activityes that includes
distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials such
as but not limited to Brochure on RA9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of
2010, Brochure on Elder Abuse, etc.; Radio guesting in Bombo Radyo to tackle
issues and concerns of older persons; COSE also extended support in facilitating
major activities of the City related to older persons such as the Elderly Filipino
Week Celebration in 2015 & 2016 with high participation from the older persons.
In addition, COSE formed the Support Group for the Older Person’s
Organizations (OPOs) in General Santos City with OSCA as member. The group
will support in the strengthening of the five (5) older person’s organizations
towards community development in General Santos City but eventually will
extend its help to other barangays once proven effective and helpful.
4) What are the facilitating factors that make it easier for you to provide support the
Response: The willingness of the OSCA Head to involve; the existing needs for
public awareness and the existing partnership of COSE to General Santos City
contributed a lot.
