ORGANIZATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

As a leader or manager in an organization, it is vital to consider

environmental factors because it influences the company’s daily operations
and decision making. Both internal and external factors stimulate change in
an organization and a manager should possess proactive behaviour rather
than reactive to changes. Organizational environment is fast paced and
unpredictable rather than culture that’s why in making strategies it is highly
essential to be knowledgeable of the impacts whether favourably or
unfavourably affects the business.
Keeping resources available is crucial in an organization and these
involves two major types of environment, internal and external. Internal
environment are forces and conditions within the boundary of the
organization and mainly consists of owners, board of directors, employees
and its culture. A manager must learn that in running a business, one
leadership style chose to be results oriented where management is distant
and unconcerned about employees’ welfare and morale while on the other
hand is people oriented where they go beyond what is necessary to make
their employees feel valued and important. External environment involves
conditions, events and entities that is out of management’s control. Specific
environment has a direct and immediate impacts in an organizational
operations such as customers, suppliers, competitors and public pressure
groups (Labor unions, Religious Orgs, etc). These factors primarily drives the
company to operate because it deals with how management rules in terms of
its internal procedures to achieve a win-win situation. However, in a general
environment it is the extended factors that affects activities of the company
such as adaptation of changes in terms of socio-cultural, political,
demographic, technological and economic. These potential adjustments
challenge managers to become more prepared in finding contingency plans
and adept in terms of current events when it comes to trading, rates,
technology and policies locally and internationally.
Both internal and external environment is not easy to understand and
cannot be learned overnight. That’s why in pursuing managerial position
requires unlimited experiences and knowledge in performing task and
decision making skills. It is undeniably true because change is inevitable and
competitions are slimmed over a period of time so it is important to be not
contented to what is usual and normal about what you already know. To
become a manager, one must have careful analysis with appropriate
information in making judgments about the strategies and not by merely
relying on instincts and wild guesses.
