The close grouping of services and the
placing of them in a fairly centrally situated
service duct, usually a duct which extends
vertically through the house, has a great
deal to recommend it but is seldom
executed well. The forerunner of this (still
to be found in some older houses) was the
hot water cylinder placed directly above the
open fire with a fire back boiler. The
pipework had to be short, without many
bends and large diameter so that unpumped
hot water could rise by convection to the
cylinder. The cold water supply pipe had to
be directly above the cylinder to prevent
explosions in case of water boiling in the
pipework. This still holds true for hot water
produced from stoves.

LOBBY
Sumptuous but refined, the lobby sets the
interior theme of Udaivilas.

Dome In The Lobby

A large dome with floral painting on
gold leaf gives an arrival royal
importance.
"An eclectic approach to the décor
was most suitable," says Malaysia-
based designer Jeffrey Wilkes.
"Applied decoration, like mirror
inlay, was inspired by Udaipur's
Lake Palace and City Palace. We
also used Déco-style furniture and
other period pieces.”
RESTAURANTS
Udaivilas has two restaurants as well as
outdoor dining areas. The informal Surya
Mahal, for all-day dining, has a '30s-era
colonial feel. Udai Mahal, the evening
restaurant, is an octagonal space, edged in
cusped arches. The domed ceiling, painted
midnight blue with gold stars, evokes the
evening sky. Temptations range from
saffron linguini to prawn curry with
coconut and curry leaf to the dishes of the
royal kitchen, like gholiya, a stewed lamb.

The cozy bar off the lobby has burlwood and- leather armchairs and chenille sofas.
Chandelier light dances off the thikri, or mosaics made of mirrors. Mega-watt romance,
however, belongs to the adjacent Candle Room, a miniature sheesh mahal, or mirrored
palace. Here, the reflection of candlelight against a dome encrusted with 1,000 pieces of
molten glass is dazzling. The Bar has an almost labyrinthine layout between domes and
through arches that offer uninterrupted views of the lake and gardens. An intricate
geometric pattern of green and white marble, sandstone and black granite ornaments the
floor, while the antique finish bar is framed by an
intricate Mewar arch.

Air Conditioning
Air conditioning is defined as a process which cools or heats, cleans, circulates,
freshens air and controls the moisture content simultaneously.

The principle at work is EVAPORATION. In the refrigeration cycle, a refrigerant

with low evaporation temperature is used in cooling coil.

Air Conditioning Systems

Depending upon the type of loads and use, following are the suitable systems:-

LOADS UNITS SUITABLE

Upto Five Tons Window Units

From Five To Forty Tons Package Units
From Forty To Hundred Tons Direct Expansion Plant
More Than Hundred Tons Central System

As in any medium sized hotel, load

required is more than hundred tons.
Central system is best for such type of
commercial buildings. These are
assembled at the site in a central location
usually in a plant room. This plant room
could be in a basement or adjacent to the
bldz to be air-conditioned.
Atmospheric Draft Towers
In this towers the water is sprayed into In a FCU, centrally chilled water is
