Course Objective:

The course aims to expose students to the basic process and framework of Design Thinking and
relevant tools & techniques for Creativity & Innovation, by translating concepts into exercises.

1. Introduction To Design thinking Method: 05

Design thinking methodology, its importance, innovation by design thinking,


relevance of design & design thinking in engineering, Problem identification &
problem solving approaches, Domain/user selection (General
topic/Products),Team preparation, record book importance & preparation.

2. Empathization Phase : 05

Field observation through AEIOU Framework; define problem, Ethnographic


tools & its usage, Understanding of user contexts, Record book exercise, data
analysis using mind mapping tool/Canvas,Preparation of empathy map.

3. Define Phase : 05

Problem definition by secondary search\prior art search activities, diachronic &


synchronic analysis, and Problem verification through users\stackholders.
4. Ideation phase : 05

Preparation, Refinement of ideation canvas, Brainstorming


(What,Why,How,When,For whom), discuss situation/context/location ,discuss
props/tools/equipment, Idea Combination through opportunity mapping(taking
feedbacks from other teams, faculty guide, users,) ,prioritizing & finalizing idea

5. Product development phase : 05

Prepare & discuss Product development canvas (PDC), Sketching of mock


concepts in log book ,SCAMPER tool

6. Proof of concept : 05

Dirty mock-ups /Fast prototype (made up of paper, card board, thermocol etc.),
feedback & final report.
