Emergency Baptism
By who?
o Any Baptized Orthodox Christian. Principle: you cannot give what you do not have.
When?
o When it is believed an anabaptized person is in danger of immanent death and there is
no time for usual baptism.
How?
o As many prayers as possible. Trisagion, Creed.
o Water – make the sign of the cross over it
o Immerse if possible, or pour, with the proper formula: “The servant of God ____ is
baptized…”
Contact a priest as soon as possible to complete the baptism.
This handout accompanies a short talk given after liturgy concerning emergency baptism.
