Magtanim ay di biro
Maghapong nakayuko
Di naman makatayo
Di naman makaupo
Sa pagkababad sa tubig.
Kay-pagkasawing-palad
Ng inianak sa hirap,
Lahat ay iisipin
Tayo'y magsipag-unat-unat.
Sa pagkababad sa tubig.)
Buko ng papaya,
Dala-dala'y buslo,
Sisidlan ng sinta,
Pagdating sa dulo'y
Kapos kapalaran,
Humanap ng iba.
Tayo'y manampalok,
Sisidlan ng hinog.
Pagdating sa dulo'y
Lalamba-lambayog,
Baka ka mahulog.
Leron, leron sinta
Buko ng papaya,
Dala-dala'y buslo,
Sisidlan ng sinta,
Pagdating sa dulo'y
Kapos kapalaran,
Lalaking matapang,
Parte ng dinulang

Dala-dala'y buslo,
Sisidlan ng sinta,
Pagdating sa dulo'y
Kapos kapalaran,

My ukulele cover of Si Pilemon, a Cebuano folk song that I heard a lot as a kid in the Philippines and with
my Titos and Titas while growing up in New Jersey. This song was always a riot, especially with the
changing vowel sounds - I used the “ee,” “aah” and “ooh” sound here, but you can get really creative
with other sounds (“ay,” “eh,” etc, you get it). Something that translation can’t perfectly get is the humor
in the song - I always thought this story was so funny when I was a kid, but when I look at the English
translation, it’s actually kinda sad, right? Poor Philemon. He should find another job. :)
If you want to play this exactly, use a Capo on 2 and play in the key of C Major.

quirks depending on what region you’re from.
