servants the prophets. (NKJV)

Acts 21:10, And as we stayed many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down
from Judea. (NKJV)

Acts 13:1, Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and
teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had
been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. (NKJV)

What can we learn about prophets as seen in Amos 3:7?

Amos 3:7, Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His
servants the prophets. (NKJV)

The word surely means: that, for sure, because. Nothing happens in our realm before
something happens, God must reveal it to the prophets. The word nothing means: not at all, no,
none. In the Old Testament the prophet was the exclusive voice of God, but in the New
Testament, all can hear the voice of God. At the day of Pentecost, we as believers received the
power that causes us to be able to prophesy. We can also receive the gift of prophecy, that
doesn’t make us a prophet, but it allows you to see and speak! That means that if we tap into
the spirit of prophecy, which is the Holy Spirit (Revelation 19:10) then we can cause something
to take place!

What is the function of the prophet in the New Testament?

Prophets in the New Testament equip us, for something to happen, for us to do the work of the
ministry. The prophet equips us so we can move from nothing happening to something
happening! Nothing is busy happening, but suddenly the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and
begins to show you, speak to you. As you speak, become an inspired speaker, now something
happens. With revelation comes Divine inspiration, now there is order and the body is edified.
Prophets also have the function of destroying the work of satan against a city, nation or region,
and cause preservation to take place!
