2:43 IST and successfully placed
the 3,850 kg, Chandrayaan-2
into the orbit, 16 minutes after
the blast off.

launch and said NASA will look

Chandrayaan-2 was launched from
the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at

pm, exactly a week after the mission
was aborted after a technical snag was
detected less than an hour before the
launch.
In the run-up to the launch, the ISRO,
on its Twitter, put out regular updates
about preparations. ISRO had successfully
completed the launch rehearsal of the
Chandrayaan-2 mission on Saturday.
Chandrayaan-2 will explore a region of
Moon where no mission has ever set foot.
The spacecraft consists of an orbiter, a
lander, and a rover together referred to as
"composite body". The probe's total mass
is 3.8 ton and is expected to land on the
Moon's south polar region on September 6
or 7 this year.

Ihumātao protest: Dogs pepper
sprayed as more people arrested
Police have pepper-sprayed two dogs
and arrested three people at the scene
of a stand-off over contested land in
Auckland. The site at Ihumātao near
Auckland Airport is due to be developed

subject of a bitter dispute and occupation,
and an eviction notice was served against

a pre-charge warning for obstruction

Sherman remarks came hours after
Trump said that Modi had asked him to
act as a mediator to resolve the Kashmir
issue.
"So, I was with Prime Minister Narendra
Modi two weeks ago and we talked about
this subject. And he said, would you like
to be a mediator or arbitrator? Did I say,
where? He said Kashmir because this
has been going for many, many years. I
was surprised at how long it has been
going on," said Trump, who was hosting
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan at
the White House.
"It should be resolved, so he has to think
the same thing, so maybe I will speak to
him and we will see what we can do," he
added.
Meanwhile, India also clarified that no
such request was made by Modi to the US
President.
"We have seen @POTUS's remarks to
the press that he is ready to mediate
if requested by India & Pakistan, on
Kashmir issue. No such request has
been made by PM @narendramodi to US
President. It has been India's consistent
position," tweeted MEAspokesperson
Raveesh Kumar.
"...that all outstanding issues with
Pakistan are discussed only bilaterally.
Any engagement with Pakistan would
require an end to cross border terrorism.
The Shimla Agreement & the Lahore
Declaration provide the basis to resolve
all issues between India & Pakistan

The Japan Maritime Self-Défense Force
(JMSDF), US Navy and participants
from the Indian Navy commenced Mine
Warfare Exercise 2JA 2019 off the coast of
northern Japan, July 18.
Indian Navy explosive ordnance disposal

The Indian Navy this year took part in an
annual exercise series with the US Navy
and JMSDF.
IMF cuts India's GDP growth
forecast to 7 per cent for FY20
The International Monetary Fund (IMF)
has cut its projection for India's economic
growth by 0.3 percentage points to 7 per
cent for the fiscal year 2019-20 owing to
the "weaker-than-expected outlook" for
the domestic demand.
The growth is expected to rise to 7.2 per
cent points in FY21, down by the projected
growth rate of 7.5 in the earlier report.
"India's economy is set to grow at 7.0 per
cent in 2019, picking up to 7.2 per cent
in 2020. The downward revision of 0.3
percentage point for both years reflects
a weaker-than-expected outlook for
domestic demand," the International

Historically both neighbours have been on
generally friendly terms except for some
bilateral issues coming up time to time.
Australia has always treated New Zealand like
a younger -small neighbour and has mostly
been friendly towards it. Things have taken
a different turn in recent years ever since
Australia started tightening their immigration
laws and being very rigid about their laws
against offenders in their country. The biggest
impact of these harsher laws has been on New
Zealand, since the new laws came in place
in 2014. Around 1500 offenders so far have
been deported back to New Zealand on these
grounds. While some of the deportees may
be hardcore criminals and repeat offenders’
but there are others who now have no to very
little connection with New Zealand. They have
either been born in Australia or have spent
most of their lifetime in Australia. This is
making matter worse for the NZ government
and is putting additional burden on an already
struggling law and order situation here.
Jacinda was quite critical on this issue and she
has termed this policy as corrosive. She said
this deportation regime is having a corrosive
effect on the relation between two countries
and that she will continue raising this issue in
future as well until it is resolved.
This was Jacinda’s first official meeting with
her Australian counterpart since him coming
back to power defying the polls, to secure
a third term government in May. The other
important issue she has discussed with Scott
Morison was increasing of refugee’s quota on
which Australia doesn’t want to budge and
New Zealand also, being a very small nation
and much smaller economy does not want

He has reacted very sharply on Jacinda’s
‘Corrosive” remark, saying we need to stand
for Australians and will not change our laws
for any reason because for the Australian
government, the most important priority is to
make Australia safe and free of any crimes.
Australia on the other hand, have their own
issues which they want an assurance from
New Zealand like Reserve Bank of New
Zealand’s increasing staunch approach to the
major Australian banks and insurers. Last
week only Reserve Bank stopped the sale
of AMP’s New Zealand and Australian life
insurances businesses. In response to their
concerns New Zealand government has to say
that Australian banks do quite well in New
Zealand market it is just that the Reserve
Bank wants to ensure that there is enough
safety mechanism in place.
Jacinda’s visit seem to have melted down the

It’s becoming ever-clearer that the
Labour-led Government’s idea of being
‘kind’ and ‘caring’ simply means throwing
more money at a problem and hoping it
goes away. The idea of incentivising work
and promoting a pathway that is proven
to provide a better quality of life simply
doesn’t register.
And that’s reflected in the latest benefits
statistics. What they show is that, since
coming into power, this Government has
seen more than 15,000 more Kiwis reliant
on a jobseeker benefit. The ‘jobseeker
benefit’ is for people who can work but
aren’t. There have also been nearly half a
million emergency grants for things like
food.
Labour’s poor policies have seen the cost
of living dramatically increase. Rents are
up an average of $50 a week, there are
more taxes on petrol and electricity prices
are set to rise. Incomes aren’t going as far
as they used to. But despite employers
crying out for new workers, there are
thousands more people receiving a
jobseeker benefit.
But it’s not surprising that more and more
people are expressing their discontent at
the Government’s actions this winter.
Of course, there will always be people
who need short-term assistance. The
benefit is an important safety net for New
Zealanders who fall on hard times. That
is exactly how it should be used, to give a
helping hand in times of need.
And there will always be those who
will need ongoing support, like people
on Supported Living Payments due to
disability and long-term illness.
But we know that long-term reliance
on benefits provide poor outcomes. It’s
important for people to upskill, develop
professionally and remain relevant in the
job market. Being out of the workforce for
longer makes it harder and harder to dive
back in.
National is aspirational for Kiwis. It’s
important we’re all able to live happy
and independent lives and pursue a
brighter future. We want Kiwis creating
opportunities for them and their families.
We know that children in households
where parents work go on to lead better
lives.
In Government, National’s social
investment approach provided
individualised solutions and the chance
for Kiwis to upskill. We got results.
The Government is happy for the number
on benefits to keep increasing, it isn’t
incentivising work, with the number of
sanctions down by more than 22% since
the September 2017. It’s important
to remember that sanctions are only
imposed when someone fails to turn up
for a job interview or work obligations
several times. They are, and always have
been, a last resort.
The Government has repeatedly
claimed that one of its main priorities is
combatting child poverty. The increase
in hardship grants shows that it’s simply
getting tougher for families, not easier.
Kiwis are struggling, and Labour has no
plan.
New Zealanders, more than ever, can’t
afford this Government.

adding, "I think almost everybody else

voices Scar]- we were setting up the
shot and Chiwetel was sitting in the
front and he said, 'You need to be
careful where your foot is,' " Oliver
recalled. "I looked down and there was
just this piece of tape on the floor with

was so intimidating -- if you look at my
face in there, I look really intimidated,"
he continued. "That's because what
I'm doing is imagining that I am about

one day. And that was nerve-wracking

Jaipur or popularly known as the Pink
City is the largest city of the biggest state
of India, Rajasthan. It was founded by the
then Maharaja of Amer Sawai Jai Singh
in year 1727, who planned to move his
capital from Amer to
Jaipur, which is just
11 km from Amer to

growing population.
When built, it was the
first planned city of
the world at that time.

Raja Sawai Jai Singh.

entire city was painted
in pink colour which is

Jaipur is one of the most popular tourist

titles, from 2004. This is a testament to
their tennis prowess, but also shows
a yawning gap between them and the
players just below them. Australian Nick
Kyrgios and Austrian Dominc Thiem are
touted to be the next big things in the
sport. Kyrgios has all the makings of a
superstar and a ratings magnet, if only
he can curb his mercurial behaviour
and actually play the sport to his ability.
Not many can boast of beating Djokovic
twice, in the only two matches they have
played like Kyrgios.
Simona Halep made Wimbledon history
by becoming the first Romanian to win
the Grand Slam with a 6-2, 6-2 victory
over the champion of 23 Grand Slams
–American Serena Williams. Williams
was seeking to equal Australian Margaret
Court as the joint winner of the most
Grand Slams at 24, but Halep who
made only three unforced errors in the
game, had other ideas. It was the third
consecutive Grand Slam final that the
37-year-old Williams has lost. Though
there is no denying her huge impact

on the sport, and of late her passionate
championing of social causes. The
breakout star from the women’s draw was
undeniably the 15-year-old American
Coco Gauff. She became the youngest
qualifier to reach the main draw at
Wimbledon. The former junior World
number 1 beat the great Venus Williams
in the first round, ensuring the eyes of the
world were on this Florida resident. Onus
now will be on her to continually improve
her game and not get swayed by the perks
of success –easier said than done in most
cases.
Indian Tennis legend Leander Paes had a
disappointing Wimbledon, losing in the
first round of both the men’s and mixed
doubles events. The 46-year-old who has
won eighteen Grand Slams, is the hero for
millions of Indians who play and follow
the sport around the globe. He has also
been a regular presence at Auckland’s
ATP Open, having won the title in 2015,
and tennis aficionados in the city have
been fortunate to see him live in action.
India’s other successful doubles player –
Rohan Bopanna lost in the first round to
the Kiwi/ Dutch pairing of Marcus Daniel
and Wesley Koolhof.
New Zealand Tennis had a good run
at this year's Wimbledon. Four Kiwis
featured in the main draw of the doubles
event. 2017 French Open winner –
Auckland’s Michael Venus made it
through to the semi-finals of the men’s
doubles with his regular partner – Raven
Klassen of South Africa.
Wimbledon marks the end of the grass
court season of Tennis. Action now shifts
to the hard courts of Flushing Meadows
in New York, where the last Grand Slam
for the year –U.S Open starts. Here is to
many more exciting games of Tennis,
watching the masters in action and
witnessing new talent emerge.
