Dance Classes
Fall Friday Night Youth
Dances – Register now!
Register for your child now
to get “real life” communication
skills, a variety of dance skills
and confidence - all while hav-
ing fun! The Acton Woman’s
Club is offering a “Two for $25”
Trial package for 7th through
10th graders at the 8:15-9:15pm
Friday evening class. This series
of 9 classes start September 6 –
and all levels of experience are
welcome.
The “Two for $25” Trial is
offered at a per class discount
rate. Most students find they love
it within 2 classes (even the most

reluctant), so we expect many
will want to continue for the
remaining 7 classes. The Trial
offers a 27% discount off the
normal per class rate; if your
child continues beyond this, then
the cost is $130 to complete the
remaining classes. The total cost
for 9 classes is $155.00, whether
signing up for the Trial and then
the remaining classes, or signing
up for the total 9 classes.
The fall Friday night dance
classes help students build a life-
long foundation of social skills
(so important for digital natives)
and classic moves from a variety
of dance styles – while hav-
ing fun. The greatest availability
remaining is for the 7th through
10th grades (in the fall) class
from 8:15 to 9:15. The 5:45-
6:45pm class is sold-out (5th &
6th grades). The 7:00-8:00pm
class (5th & 6th grades) has only
3 slots left for girls, and16 slots
for boys.
For nearly seven decades,
the classes have been held in
the upstairs hall of the Acton
Woman’s Club (a non-profit,
charitable social club in Acton
Center), which sponsor this activ-
ity. We extend a warm welcome
to students throughout the area,
newcomers as well as returning
students for those in the 7th to
10th grades. Students may come
from anywhere, though most
attendees come from the AB
school system (given word-of-
mouth for this popular course).
This course is great preparation
for High School Socials- it will
instill confidence in your child’s
dance abilities to become a star
to the party!

is an arm of the South Acton
Congregational Church (SACC)
It is a small, all-volunteer orga-

MA Seeks Athletes
The Miracle League of MA
is looking for athletes for our
upcoming fall season. The
Miracle League of MA is an
all-volunteer, non-profit organi-
zation that gives children with
disabilities a chance to play
baseball as part of a team in an
organized league at no cost to
their families. Our athletes, aged
5 to 22, have a wide range of
challenges from just having a
little difficulty paying attention
or understanding instructions, to
needing physical assistance with

recent work on the 19th-century
barn-frame loom.
Jones Tavern, 128 Main Street,
was built in 1732 with additions
in 1750 and ca. 1818. It was the
home of the Jones family, who
ran a tavern, store, and a dairy
farm. Remnants of the tavern are
still intact, and items from the
old Jones farm are on display.

A Sunday service entitled “
Spiritual Growth and the Life of
the Church Community “ will
be held on July 28, at 10 a.m.,
at First Parish Church of Stow
and Acton (FPC), Unitarian
Universalist. FPC’s summer ser-
vices are lay led. This summer,
each service will either address
one of the seven Unitarian
Universalist (UU) principles or
one of the big theological ques-
tions that UUs tend to ruminate
upon.

ple: Acceptance of one another

Scholastic sports are popular
activities. While playing sports
has many benefits, including
increased physical activity, that
impact both the body and the
mind, such participation is not
without risk. Players must weigh
the benefits against the potential
for injury carefully while educat-
ing themselves about the ways to
prevent injuries.
Massachusetts General Hospital
Orthopaedics says that the major-
ity of sports injuries are a result
of minor trauma to muscles, lig-
aments and tendons. These are
commonly called sprains and
strains. A strain is an injury to
either a muscle or a tendon caused
by overuse, force or stretching. A
sprain is an injury to a ligament
that is caused by a stretching or
tearing.
Signs and symptoms of sprains
and strains include pain, swelling,
bruising, and decreased range of

sprains and strains can heal com-
pletely with adequate treatment,
but there’s also a high risk of
re-injury.
The American Academy of
Pediatrics urges students (and their
parents) to make sports safety a

you may do more damage, and the
injuries will only take longer to
heal as a result.

tioning oneself, avoiding sudden
increases in training intensity and
wearing supportive gear, student-

Chickpea Salad
Makes 4 servings
1 can (15 ounces) chick-
peas, rinsed and drained
1 stalk celery, chopped
1 dill pickle, chopped
(about 1/2 cup)
1/4 cup finely chopped red
or yellow onion
1/3 cup vegan mayonnaise
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
Black pepper
Whole grain bread
Lettuce and tomato slices
Place chickpeas in a medium
bowl. Coarsely mash with a pota-
to masher, leaving some beans
whole.
Add celery, pickle and onion;
stir to mix. Add mayonnaise and
lemon juice; mix well. Taste and
add 1/4 teaspoon salt or more, if
desired. Sprinkle with pepper, if
