Activity 2: Video Presentation (2 minutes)
C. Presenting
Using the projector, show the learners a video of a computer gaming shop. Show

equation to reveal the topic for the day.
Activity 3: Group Activity. Network Show. (30 minutes)
Let the learners grouped into 5 members.
Instruct the learners to present in front showing a network using their selves only.
They are given 2 minutes to plan and collaborate about the activity before the
presentation.

D. Discussing New
(Let the students read the definition of LAN cabling.)
Concepts and
LAN Cabling is the process of creating a cable used to create a network that
Practicing New
interconnects computers.
Skills #1
Straight-Through Connection is used to connect computer to a network hub
such as a router

Straight Through Connection Wire Color Coding

PIN COLOR PIN COLOR

2 Orange 2 Orange
3 White Green 3 White Green

5 White Blue 5 White Blue
6 Green 6 Green
7 White Brown 7 White Brown
8 Brown 8 Brown
Guide Questions:
 Why should we use a straight-through cable in a network instead of a
cross over cable?
 Why do we need to memorize the color coding of a straight through cable
in order?

(Show the materials and tools used in LAN cabling)

Materials and Tools used in LAN Cabling
Unshielded Twisted-Pair (UTP) Cable – most common cable used in computer
networking. Number of twisted-pair wires are often grouped together and
enclosed in a protective sheath to form a cable.
RJ45 Connector – registered jack 45 is an eight-wire connector used to connect
computers to category 5 unshielded twisted pair cables in a network.
Wire Stripper – used to remove the outer jacket of the wire.
Crimping tool – used to crimp UTP cable to RJ45 connector.
LAN Tester – assists in the installation and control of networks.
(Call a student to identify one tool or material and tell its function.)

Safety Precaution
 Use the proper tool
 Always be on task
 Be vigilant
 Wear Personal Protective Equipment
Guide Questions:
 Why is it important to always use the proper tool in doing the task?
 What do you think will happen if you will not wear or use protective
equipment?
 Why do we need to always observe safety precaution?

Activity 4. Individual activity.

Let the students get their materials for making a LAN cable.
Show the students on how to make a LAN cable by following the steps below.
They will also practice to make their own LAN cable. Remind the students about
following safety procedures when doing the activity.
Steps in LAN Cabling
1. Wear gloves and shoes before doing the activity.
2. Prepare all the needed materials.
(What are the materials that we need to prepare?)
3. Carefully remove the outer jacket of the cable.
(What tool are we going to use to remove the outer jacket of the cable?)
4. Untwist the pairs and arrange the wires based on the wire color coding.
(Let the students count the number of wires in a UTP cable and identify
the colors of the wire in order)
5. Trim the untwisted wires to a suitable length.
(Why do we need to trim the wires of the same length?)
6. Keep the wires flat and in-order as you push them into the RJ45.
7. Place the wired plug into the crimping tool.
8. Repeat all the steps with the other end of the cable.
9. Test the cable.
(What tool are we going to use to test the cable?)

I. Evaluating Learning
2. What kind of cable that is used for LAN cabling?
3. What tool that is used to remove the outer jacket of the wire?
4. How will you know if you have made the right LAN cable?
5. When are you going to create a LAN cable all over again?
J. Additional Activities Assignment:
for Application or 1. What is a cross-over cable?
Remediation 2. What is the color coding of a cross over cable?
V. REMARKS

up with the lesson.
D. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies
worked well? Why did these work?
